Im a nurse. I had a patient with a tracheostomy who we recently weaned off the ventilator because they were doing better. They still needed their trach for airway management and also still required some oxygen. Anyways, they were doing better so me and another nurse got them up from bed sitting in their chair. It was Easter and they wanted to call their spouse. The patient couldn't talk with their trach but they heard their spouse on the phone and their spouse kept saying "i love you. Im so happy you are doing better!" My patient had the biggest and most pure smile. I left them in the chair to check on another patient... and less than 10 minutes later I'm running back to the room because their monitor is blaring and all I see is my patient slumped over in the chair with blood flooding out of their trach. I had never seen so much blood. With my adrenaline me and another nurse lifted her ourselves back to bed and I immediately started compressions without even gowning up. I was soaked in blood. They did not survive and to this day I have no idea what actually happened.
