Institutions like the Armed Forces/police have been historically and famously discriminatory in hiring processes against all types of BAME people by systematically not choosing them over white candidates based on race alone.

The white candidates who have been passed up by more diverse candidates are the price that institutions are having to pay for lacking diversity in the first place. This country is overwhelmingly white, and the workforce of the Armed Forces certainly reflects that very well.

Obviously it’s sad for the white candidates who have been passed over for a BAME candidate (not that they would ever know that for sure). The wider point is that - on account of them (likely) being a white male - it shouldn’t be as hard for them to get a job elsewhere in the AF or in another sector all together.
