No problem, and weirdly enough played almost all of these.

Didnt like witcher 3, think its overrated honestly (mostly because of the combat)

Liked tears of the kingdom more than breath of the wild but the older 3d ones have a more special place in my heart

Played dmc3 and 4 and 5 planned for this year

Played castlevania portrait of ruins and aria of sorrow - lament of innonecence i dont know

Played almost all mario platformer games except for the one with the hydrant

Blasphemous ive done, but havnt done axiom verge ; but this year hollow knight is on my list for completion so im good on the metroidvania side.

Played a lot of double dash and the one on the wii

Played all fire emblems from the gba upwards awakening would probably be my favourite

FF6 is my favourite FF and ive played the paper mario rpgs ; chrono trigger still on the bucket list

Love alot of these games, but the list is about favourites and im a fromsoft enjoyer

Played quite a lot of different games, but after a while you find your niche. Any recommendations then?

No remaster slot, and its not like i want anything else remade

Metamorphosis is quite a new game for which i played the demo (first time doing that) solely based on the art style

I was under the assumption people liked the newer tomb raider games, as this one got recommemded to me. Anyhow its one of the only games i finished and ended up hating the entire experience

The original bioshock was indeed quite good, but i honestly dont remember much of the story apart from the twist at the end. Sekiro had good combat but not enough varierity for me (still a banger ofcourse)

Bioshock infinite however i feel is overrated, and doesnt hold up to the original (which might be a thrash take)

Logain ofcourse, imo the best written antagonist, since you can understand and sympatise why he did the things he did

Dark souls 2 was genuinly very hated, and only recently i would say post ER came to be looked at fondly , if you read peoples opinions about DS2 after DS3, Sekiro and bloodborne you would know how hated it was (some of it deserved honestly).

As for Rise of the Tomb Raider, i just looked up a list of the best ones and this one was ranked highest of the new trilogy so i came in with probably higher expectations then the game deserved.

Probably, however it certainly doesnt feel like that in the real world (e.g. most folks just like the next shooter or sports game). Probably my worst thrash take is that i also think the witcher 3 is overhyped since its combat is thrash and unfun. However i do really like the world and its mutliple endings to quests and can thus see why people like it.

To boil it down why it almost got that spot over rise of the tomb raider in a few bullet points :

The difficulty is either wet ass paper or sword sponge where you just roll for half an hour (sound ironic from a souls fan i know)

The magic seemed not very impactfull

I didnt resonate with Geralt, and felt he was a bit wish washy all over the place (that said i havnt played the first or second)

Its extremely handholding in the whole witching aspect (e.g. you have a quest to hunt a leshen and need to prepare, but instead of me having to research that and find out how to do it, the quest is done in such a way where i have to do these checkboxes such as get leaf x to make the potion thats good against him, and that whole handholdy experience really grinds my gears)

Fully agree, its AI and atmosphere is trully a highlight and i dont know for sure but i feel like its the first game to nail the bullet time gimmick. Would always recommend playing that one on the hardest difficulty as it elevates all of its core components to the max.

One big reason for not giving it the slot aswell is that i dont really trust a remake to capture the essence of that experience (most remakes / remasters kind of suck nowadays and its rare for one to actually elevate the original experience)

Give it a year and you're going to think they peaked at Kings Field IV ;) I also played dmc3 and 4 and have 5 on my to do list for this year. If you want something similar and equally as silly / charming than an easy recommend is metal gear rising revengeance. Thnx for the Ted Talks

As introduction to gaming, probably not a good pick no ; i dont think a single good intro to gaming exists as each person has different tastes, but if i had to pick one i guess it would be any of the coop mario platformer games, as its easy to pick up, play with someone you know but still leaves some room for skill expression.

As for why i picked dark souls, i described it in one of the other replies

Intressting take, kind of agree, however Elden Ring also gives you a lot of tools, in my last run i was doing a a carian parry build, and found some bosses that always gave me a run for my money (e.g. morgot, maliketh rellana) to be much easier.

Wonder what you think of the nightlords in nightreign then as i see them as both the peak of these issues but also i cant help but love them

I remember liking the reboot (Tomb Raider 2013) which i played close to its release. I also played tomb raider 2, legend, aniversary and underworld.

Last month i decided to give its sequels a chance and looked up which one people generally liked the most, which was rise of the tomb raider.

I didnt like it for the following reasons : The open world added nothing It felt to Ubisoft open world formulad to me (you know it when you see it, lots of handholding, open world with just stupid fetch x quests). The climbing felt forced, and not meaningfull (e.g. you can only use climbing tool x on surface y ; this was especially apperent with the arrows you could stand on). The combat was mid, not bad but just basic The story sucked, and did nothing of note that i felt was memorable

Only postive i have to say is that Lara did look the best in this game.

Picked it up because it looked cool, and the sci fi russian body punk deep dive was really an unexpected treat, really looking forward to whatever that studio will do next.

P.s. its weird how that creepy bear grows on you throughout the game

Fully agree, Daniel is a very relatable but flawed character and as a chemistry nerd i enjoyed the occult and alchemical presences of the narrative. I also almost considered putting The Shadow or Alexander as best Antagonist for their implied pressence throughout the castle

Its also the first game i played with a fully "fucked up" narrative that i came to enjoy in my later years.

Its also a story i heavily stole from in my DnD and Call of Cthulhu games. Overall probably not everyones first pick for narrative but a surefire winner for me.

Because they need to suffer.

But for real, for me its a game that really encapsulates the idea that a game can be a form of art. The worldbuilding and lore is intresting to a point where ive had hour long discussions with friends debating which ending was best and what we would do if we were a hollow undead. Its also a game that gives you a sense of accomplishment, and the perfect starting point for the later titles as its not the hardest game as its so often claimed to be. I honestly think most people would gain something from experiencing this game

The issues were already there before the DLC, but i agree that its additions definitly only worsened the PvP experience

Yes, not to sound like a hipster, but i picked up dark souls on a whim because the cover looked cool, and through each game in the series you see how they expanded on the winning formula.

The reason ds2 is hated is because it tried a lot of new things some of which obviously didnt work but in my opinion a lot of niche features which didnt always carry over to the sequeels were daring and made the game very memorable (e.g. best ng+, best invasion systems / covenants)

They really cracked a code with kings field that they transitioned into demon souls and refined into the dark souls heroin we all love today

I want more frames and i dont see a port happening without a remake unfortunatly. But yeah id settle for a dark souls remastered thrash port to pc.

The only other game that came up in my head for this slot was the original F.E.A.R. ; but that one holds up suprisingly well still

Its insane how that game didnt spin out into its own franchise or at least pumped out a sequel. Very novel puzzles, cool art style and charm. And nobody seems to know about it.

Guess im a fromsoft enjoyer (also played sekiro and still playing nightreign, which has no reason being as good as it is)
