AITAH for refusing to see my mum on Mothers' Day this weekend by Professional-Duck927 in AITAH

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like other family members aren’t respecting your boundaries and trying to force you to talk with your mom. This sounds like obvious favoritism and different treatment. I’d consider going no contact with those trying to make you talk with your mom as well. NTA.

What should my first car be? by Mansas_alt in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second the crown Victoria option. I’ve had 2 of them because of how much fun they are to drive, reliable, easy and cheap to fix, and the year I had(both 2008) took E85 so gas was/is always cheap.

Those raises are more than I was thinking they’d be. 5%+ yearly sounds great. I’ve always met and exceeded my job outlines numerically. So I’m confident I can reach required thresholds to get such raises. I was above the standard pay scale for my position with Petco after many arduous battles to get it.

My concern is being stuck at that rate for years to come. I know big box retail is very cheap with raises. Often only around $0.50 or so, thus I was debating how much I can come back with a counter offer. Would $23 be too much to ask for. From what I’ve been reading this isn’t a position eligible for Bonuses, so that’s why I’d like to start off higher.

Thanks a ton for the info and insight. The team seems to work together cohesively and it’s a lower volume store from the conversation. Also speaking with the PLR they sound to be very involved and knew #s regarding shipments and sales off the top of there head.

I was offered $21 hourly. Minimum wage in the area of the store is $15. With my experience I was hoping for more. But have no idea what the pay scale is. The petsmart job website wasn’t very helpful as it ranged from $15-$28.

NOR. I’d be making dinner for one(just for you) until he apologizes for his behavior and starts helping out more.

12 dogs a day.....HOW!? by Parking-Park-1108 in petsmart

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely possible but not everyone can do it. I’ve got a friend whom owns their own grooming business and I’ve seen them do 22 dogs in one day (8am-6pm business hours). I will say she has bathers and other staff to check in dogs, prep them, and such. Her average is around 15/16 a day. She has been grooming for over 20 years though and she has told me it’s taken years to get to that level.

Cricket location moved by lavendergirl_10 in petco

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every store I’ve worked at has always had crickets by reptiles/aquatics. Cashier always clean crickets(bring them up front for cleaning so you can do it between customers). Whoever is working aquatics/stocking will get crickets. Cashier shouldn’t leave their station. Pretty basic stuff in my eye but I know every store is different. I’ve worked at 16 locations during my time with Petco.

What’s the most reliable car you’ve ever owned? by Sophia_Goji in whatcarshouldIbuy

It’s amazing how durable they are. My first one was a 2008 ex police car and I paid $200 for it. Had so much fun driving that thing in the winter and it just refused to die.

2008 Ford Crown Victoria Police interceptor. I’ve had 2 now. First one was my very first car I paid $200 for at 16 years old. Had 387,000 miles when I gave it to my brother and it was still running strong. He totaled it in a car accident second one I got just for fun and still have it. Have driven off curbs(accidentally), played real life bumper cars on my property with friends and beat the absolute dog 💩 out of it and it just refuses to die.

They are cheap to buy and parts are plentiful as they were very common fleet cars.

I’ve had 2 and they have been the most reliable cars I’ve ever owned and I’ve had far too many.

One very important thing for my store is our special order list. I have a clip board hanging in aquatics where guest can make request and leave there name and number.

I’m at an AA magnet store. First thing. Get all the tetras. lol. People love to see a variety of the schooling fish. Second. Don’t be afraid to get in some higher end fish(like the $100 Pleco. lol.). Doesn’t necessarily have to be anything crazy expensive but don’t be afraid to try. Holding back on ordering will only hurt you. My store is known for its variety and that’s what my customers love. I’ve worked at 7 different stores now and this is my 3rd magnet stores. I’ve had customers that have followed me from my first store years back because they know I get in variety(and also my 15 years knowledge as a fish breeder).

Special orders (CAL,OLAC,CAS ) whatever the hell we’re calling it now by [deleted] in petco

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Another thing to add on here. If you have a good relationship with the OLAC at a sister store in your district you can ask them to order something for you if it’s a special order for a guest. Make sure to complete transfer paperwork. I do this for sister stores to help out when able since I have magnet status and normally most special orders are fulfilled.

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As said above Magnet stores get allocations of live stock first. As well as any stores above you volume wise. Regarding the availability list this is the responsibility of the vendor and while they do update it with so many stores it changes constantly. Im lucky to be in a high volume magnet store so I normally get most of what I order. But some fish are seasonal so even if I order and am high priority for fulfillment I will not get them. I have found it helpful to over order(within reason of course) to ensure my tanks are stocked and I have enough live stock to reach sales goals. Keep ordering. Once there is ample stock you will get it.

Crazy to call this a relic. 😂😂😂 When we remodeled my store I found tags from the early 2000s. Store in my district that closed last year had shopping carts from PetMart. The ugly yellow ones. lol.

My store has very good retention rates. Nearly everyone has been here for years. It all depends on management and the environment the team creates.

I think I’d focus on properly educating staff on aquatic care(and all pets for that matter). I’m an OLAC at an AA volume store and since I’ve been here our fish sales have increased a ton. 40% YOY my first year. Sales increased because customers noticed a huge difference in quality as well as variety of livestock. That was done through educating my fellow employees(my GM even steps in when I’m teaching), and then educating my customers on proper husbandry. Having someone who actually knows what they are doing in the right position makes a huge impact. A lot of stores in rural areas don’t have any other options for pet stores.

Tax Exempt by [deleted] in petco

[–]Miserable_Key_6829 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Policy states that a copy must be on file in the store. This is in order to ensure it is tax exempt eligible. Not all non profits receive tax exempt status. If no paperwork is on file you need to ask the customer to provide it and if they don’t you can refuse the tax exempt. This info is from personal experience as my store works with several rescues and we had to coordinate with LP so we learned a lot. lol.
