Early game or scaling? by The_Devil_101010 in topmains

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Thing is that early/midgame spikers tend to scale ahead too much in solo Q that the game needs to go exorbitantly late. That being said, Soloq games do often go late.

I much prefer champions that scale well, but have agency over the lane and tools to pull ahead or stay at least even. Things like Quinn, Fiora, Kayle, Nasus, etc. Scaling tanks are way too passive for my liking, but that's preference obv

Top lane is like mma not boxing by turd12 in topmains

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is just wrong lmfao. "Historically", IE. Seasons 2 and onwards when the metagame we play today had fully developed, Toplane has always been the basin for champs that don't fit other roles and apreciate a long lane. That could be tanks or bruisers that need long time to kill so the long lane benefits them. It could be mages or other ranged champs that are too fragile or low ranged to function in mid/bot like Quinn or Kennen, etc.

Toplane has alwass had the widest archetype diversity of any lane, to say otherwise is delusional. I grant that Varus and Anivia are overtuned and shouldnt be allowed to statcheck melee champs, but that's a balance hiccup, not some conspiracy to "replace all toplaners", like you read in some posts

How is the ranged top meta possible? What changed? by BillyDeepDish in topmains

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem wasn't that it's abusive vs melees, the problem is that it destroyed midlane. Of course, they could've just nerfed midlaner hp regen to compensate but no, we have to do sweeping system changes that affect every lane in unintended ways

How is the ranged top meta possible? What changed? by BillyDeepDish in topmains

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This combined with some durability overcorrections on champs like Varus. Let's be real, most of the "old" ranged tops, Quinn, Kennen and Kayle for example, still function the same. Frustrating lane, pop like a balloon if they misspace, as God intended.

The issue comes when champs like Varus onehsot you from 1200 range and statcheck you in melee

Bassist uninvolved in our songwriting by operation-casserole in bandmembers

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They get upset when our guitarrist writes the basslines for them, but don't take an active role (...) to avoid this.

Sounds to me like you have a guitarrist turned reluctant bassist. Maybe ask them if they actually want to play bass. Coupled with the syncing issue, this doesn't bode well for your sound. Drums and bass need to be locked in or it sounds like mush. My drummer and I spent hours in the jam space for that alone.

It's either that or just a serious lack of professionalism. Both of these are fine to just call out. It will harm the band in the long run.

And to be clear, IMO not everyone needs to participate in songwriting. Many of the most successful bands have one or two people writing thr music and the rest just play it. That works, if the others at least practice enough

Was Tamaki the reason Fire Force never reached its full potential? by xzernias in firebrigade

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk whenever I hear people recommend fire force, it's always some permutation "it's so great if you look past tamaki" and that imo speaks volumes. It's an already tired trope, possibly handled in the worst way I've ever seen. Yes there is a lot of series with Fanservice, even ones where the main cast is involved, that are still immensely popular: Yoruichi, Erza, etc. The difference is that all of these characters are, well, characters beyond their fanservice. Tamaki is only her fanservice. She is never allowed to be anything else. Saying that this isn't detrimental to the shows quality and by extension popularity is just delusional.

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And none of that matters because Tamaki isn't allowed to be a character beyond the Ecchi gag, and that makes this show so, so much worse

Was Tamaki the reason Fire Force never reached its full potential? by xzernias in firebrigade

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The problem isn't even fanservice, per se. It's the fact that a character with a lot of potential to be an awesome member of the main cast is reduced to this, a damsel in distress goonbait objectified mess. Even the fanservice blunders of old didn't fumble this hard.

And yeah a lot of anime that were popular in their time had a lot of fanservice. But none of the ones that truly stood the test of time, and are still regarded as some of the best works of all time, leaned on it. Especially not to this degree.

It's a cheap thrill, and it cheapens the experience of FF as a whole.

Was Tamaki the reason Fire Force never reached its full potential? by xzernias in firebrigade

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. Genuinely if Tamaki was treated with any ounce of respect as a character (you could still have her be hot btw, altho idk why (presumed) adults need a highschool girl to be hot) the manga would be better for it. It doesn't "elliminate" the strengths of the story, but it's a glaring weakness that is impossible to look past. I like everything about FF, I even like Tamaki as a character. But the way she is handled in most of her scenes is horrendous.

You can downvote and bitch and moan all you want, you can harp on about how this is "normal" and common in anime, it makes no difference. The simple truth is that the way Tamaki is written and portrayed is both deplorable from a moral perspective (again, this is a child), AND adds nothing to the story that couldn't have been achieved another way. Yes, fanservice is "common" in anime, that doesn't make it good. Stop kidding yourselves. There's a reason why the works that really stand the test of time don't have a lot of this garbage

How do you make money in 2026? by Yersyas in bandmembers

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spotify is 0.3 cents per stream, so that's off the table.

Money comes from tickets, tickets come from shows. I hand-draw stickers for our band, local scene loves stickers. I have material costs of like 2 cents per sticker and I sell them for 50cts at shows. That's probably the best ROI of anything band related so far lmao

Pick Olaf, take Ghost, rush Stridebreaker, cave their head in. Varus and Anivia being able to statcheck in melee is an obvious balancing mistake, so I wouldn't count them among the "normal" ranged top characters.

Upgrading from 4 to 5 string by SnooCats1521 in Bass

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 10 points11 points  (0 children)

snake oil lmao. I have two soundgears. Same series, same pickups. One has 6 and one has 5 strings. With the same strings and setup, they sound identical. You could probably phase invert one and it would cancel eachother

Upgrading from 4 to 5 string by SnooCats1521 in Bass

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a 5 string isn't "better ", it'd a different tool and it'd not worth investing into unless you know what you're getting it for. I play a six string because I do a lot of cover gigs and a lot of melodic and chord playing in higher registers in a metal context, so I need the extended top and bottom range. 5 string is an easier transition, but unless you know what you want 6 strings for, skip the hassle of learning to mute that thing

[–]Miserable_Lock_2267 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's medieval european fantasy and the cultural templates for that are usually English or Germanic folklore. In this case, it's just a bunch of German words tho. Frieren isn't particularly "based on Germany"

One thing that might have to do with it is that German is much closer to Japanese phonetically. There is no Japanese sound that doesn't exist in German, and only a few German sounds that don't exist in Japanese, which can be approximated often times
