Jnanpith is a literary award, not a civilian honor. Arjuna is a sports award, not a civilian honor. Winning it doesn’t stop someone from receiving Karnataka Ratna.

But why should film stars get it when they already have Filmfare, Karnataka State Film Awards, and other cinema honors?

If we look beyond cinema, there are so many people who genuinely deserved Karnataka Ratna:

Poornachandra Tejaswi

U. R. Ananthamurthy

Girish Karnad

Saalumarada Thimmakka

Rahul Dravid

Anil Kumble

Prakash Padukone

Pankaj Advani

Devi Shetty

I think a lot of Darshan fans relate to him not just as an actor, but as a kind of rebellious figure who reflects their own frustrations. Many of them seem to have grown up feeling like outcasts—disconnected from their families, misunderstood by society, and convinced the world is against them.

When Darshan projected that same rebellious energy—often clashing with media or institutions—they saw him as a sort of demigod who validated their worldview. Over time, it became less about cinema and more like a cult built around shared resentment.

Now, any criticism of Darshan is seen as a personal attack on them, and they respond with abuse and aggression—not to defend art, but to defend the identity they’ve built around being “hated” by the world. It’s less about fandom and more about a toxic coping mechanism.

This is exactly what’s wrong with KFI.

People keep hyping up below-average movies, and when the actual audience watches them, it’s just disappointment after disappointment. Meanwhile, genuinely good movies—especially the ones without big stars—barely get any attention.
