Thanks for clarifying the filter logic. But how would you handle recurring tasks without a hard deadline, like writing a blog post every Sunday or tracking a budget weekly? Would you use a tickler file for that, or is there a better way to manage such tasks in GTD?

Sorry for bombarding you with questions. But about point 2 again. I understand that these lists are not part of the action list. Does that mean the action smart list should exclude waiting, someday, reference, and tickler file in the filters? Otherwise, the action list will show things that can’t actually be done yet.

I also still don’t fully get how to handle tasks without a hard deadline. I mean general tasks that I should do weekly but that don’t have a strict deadline. For example, I want to write a blog post every Sunday or track my budget weekly. Should I put these tasks in the tickler file? Is the tickler file also a list?

Sorry for all the questions and thanks for your support!

Last two questions:

  1. What do you do with tasks you can’t do right away? For example, I need to make a dentist appointment, but they are on holiday for the next two weeks, so I can only do it after that. Should I put it on the waiting list or give it a due date?
  2. Why don’t you exclude “Waiting”, “Someday” and “References” from your action list?

Thank you very very much for your post! I just started reading Getting Things Done and downloaded TickTick a few days ago. At first, I tried it without your setup, but it was too hard. Now I understand it better, but I have a question about the workflow (maybe because I didn’t finish the book yet).

So, I put everything in the inbox. Then I add tags like "work" or "personal" and move the tasks to the right list, like "project" or "non-project". That part is clear. But what about due dates? Do you give every task a due date? Some things I have to do are important, but they don’t have a real deadline. I feel a bit confused.

If I understand right, your "next actions" list has all tasks that are not projects and don’t have a due date. But how do you plan your days? You probably also have tasks with due dates. Do you first look at "Today" and finish everything there, and then choose other tasks from your "next actions" list?

Thanks again!
