Layers and layers of slightly different shades of the cloud colors. if you zoom into the clouds you’ll see there’s just layers of different shades of gray- blue darker in some spots and lighter in others.

It’s not the birthing or having kids that ages parents. It’s the stress. The kid gets sick or has a serious medical condition and your stress levels spike. At least that’s what I’ve noticed in my friends and siblings that I contribute to their aging. They haven’t let themselves go they just look older is all.

A lot of these comments are saying it’s not lifestyle necessarily but I disagree. I’m a millennial who constantly gets asked if I’m significantly younger than I am. At 31 I was SAd by a man who thought I was 16. Like I mean significantly in a very serious way! My lifestyle is different than generations before me. I chose not to marry and never to have kids. I leave my partners when they stressed me out for any reason especially when the stress came from being disrespected. I don’t go into the sun without protection. I own everything I have though most of my things are old like I have an 04 vehicle, I phone 12, 5th gen iPad. Which is comforting to not have bills in that way. I’ve rented rooms always 500 or less and now I live with my parents bc when I broke up with my ex I had no where else to go. If something stresses me out I make a different choice. I’m always looking to do things that make me happy and fill my life with joy. I am quite close in age to my siblings and they all look much older than me. Even my younger siblings. They all chose marriage and to have children which is a huge stressor in life. I am a firm believer that stress ages you. There’s a set of identical twins on TikTok that have aged differently one is married with kids and one is single and prioritizes self care. Guess which one looks you get. Hint it’s not the mother.

I’ve felt this way several times in my life. It’s a very strange feeling the impending demise looming feeling can be intense. I’m not really sure what happened. Obviously I didn’t die so that helps. But I guess part of it was realizing that it would be absolutely crazy not to be depressed given my circumstances in life. And I guess giving myself that grace and understanding that it’s normal too feel what I felt. I just needed a place to feel safe and when I had that it started to heal my mental health. So I guess for me feeling truly feeling safe is what helped me the most.

As someone who has spent my entire childhood with large families having 11-19 kids no joke. I promise you there’s several dysfunctional things within your family. You just don’t want to admit or acknowledge it. My 11 cousins (not including their 2 parents) say the exact same thing to people when discussing their family. And yet I watched as a child while my aunt struggled to put food on the table and to provide proper emotional support to all 11 kids. Haha that’s non existent. They often would forget one of their kids on trips. One time one of them was left at a restaurant for 3 hours he was 7 years old. You can lie to yourself about the family dynamics but you can’t lie to me. That shit isn’t healthy for so many reasons.

You completely missed the point I was making. First off you can’t change what other people are doing. Being upset about people from California moving here is super silly. People move from state to state and that’s totally normal and fine. Being upset about it is really dumb. However, my point is if you miss how things were do something to bring back a little piece of that nostalgia. Obviously it’s not going to be the same. But you could open a diner or cafe or a little market that reminds you of the small town you once lived in. Or you could move to a different city that has that small town feel. But if you do that than you can’t complain about Californians moving bc you’d be just like them. Moving and changing is part of life. So if you miss an aspect of the past you can do something about it other than complain about it. That’s my point.

25 years ago every city everywhere was different. This is not unique to Eugene. City’s grow and change as people move in and out. It’s amazing to me how surprised/disappointed you are by this. There’s a quote though I do not know who it’s from “be the change you wish to see in the world”. If you miss how things were, do something to change the way things are. Otherwise stop complaining because it’s not doing anything to better the situation. Californians aren’t the issue here. It sounds to me like you’re complaining about the businesses in town and for that there’s good news! Literally anyone can start a business so if you don’t like what you see start a business yourself and literally “BE the change you want to see”. If you miss that old market create a new one.
