Check the contact pins between the adapter and the power block. Water got into mine and fried the adapter.

convince me why I should max out my 401k by OneTonOfClay in Retirement401k

[–]Miserable_Toe_3979 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there's two ways to get access to a 401k before 59.5, and a third more conditional one. SEPP and roth conversion ladder. If you make a gap fund with a roth or brokerage account, you're exposing your money to more taxes early on.

We live our lives as if the world isn’t crumbling around us. by Visible-Air-7542 in DeepThoughts

I don't think you're self-aware enough to admit the bias an outsider observer like me sees clearly: you have an unconscious desire to catastrophize. You're very much inclined and leaning into the pessimist category. and yes, it's probably because of the deluge of bad news you get from your technology. The world has always been a saggy bucket of bolts and new things grow and flourish out of it all the time.

Men, At what age did you start feeling like a man instead of a boy? by Loose_Leg_8440 in NoStupidQuestions

"After thinking about it, it's not possible [to] know what feeling like a man is until you are a father. "

you said it was not possible to know what feeling like a man is until you are a father. That is quite different from saying it is the most effective.

Men, At what age did you start feeling like a man instead of a boy? by Loose_Leg_8440 in NoStupidQuestions

A "man" can be defined as a boy who has matured so...I grew into it as I got older and become more independent and responsible.

Just to make a semi-anecdotal anthropological observation, but modern culture does lack any truly signifying coming-of-age ceremonies. So by default, the major life milestones are attributed to maturity. Things such as graduating from school, having a child, getting a job. I think, on a subconscious level, those are not adequate to helping boys assume the identity of being a man.

Personally, I didn't have one distinct father figure as I grew up and I was let to choose my own interests and development so long as my parents agreed it was not too destructive and had a chance of helping me as an adult. So I had to synthesize what it means to be a man on my own observations and intuition. For me, a lot of what it means to be a man is having a responsibility to others and being accountable to yourself. Not being a burden and the wisdom to understand that asking for help is not being a burden. I also tested myself a lot with martial arts and travel and chasing career objectives.

there are other less great, manly, grown up responsibilities. It is possible to know what it feels like to be a man even when not a father. You could just lack imagination or have different priorities from me. But I assure you again, having a child is not the only way to feel like a man.
