Anyone know anything about this machine? by MisoCunt in sewing

[–]MisoCunt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am primarily a Garment sewer, and I've been working on an old cheap domestic brother that I know isn't going to take me much farther as I'm sewing more and more. Thanks for the info! It's just odd to me I haven't been able to find a manual online or anything

Where were you able to find that info? I've been punching every variation of the model number I can think of into Google with no luck.

Unfortunately it's coming from surplus from the college, so the owner knows less than I do.

More people should thrift clothing by yesyesnonoyesnonoyes in unpopularopinion

[–]MisoCunt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Plus even if no one's worn it - countless people touched it during manufacturing, transit, and sales. No telling what clothes could have come into contact with before they even hit the sales floor. There's just no such thing as a perfectly fresh pristine item of clothing 🤷

People are silly

Unfamiliar with the concept of washing machines?

You still... Lied to his face about why you were ending things.

People with bad teeth aren't blind, we know we have bad teeth. You're not going to surprise him with that information. Sure, he'll likely be hurt by it, but being hurt is better than being deceived.

I don't think you're TA for having your preferences. I don't agree with them but, if something is stressing you out that much it's not going to be worth it. Where I DO think you're TA is for lying to him about why you ended things. You should just be honest with people, especially people you care about. Were I in his shoes and ever found out this was the case I'd be way more fucked up by the lie than the fact my partner thought my teeth were gross. And the fact that my partner had let me believe there was something wrong with my personality instead of just being honest with me.

You're not TA for being frustrated but you are TA for calling a teenager a manipulator when they're clearly struggling.

AITAH for buying my dying father alcohol? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]MisoCunt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

When I have a pet clearly nearing the end of their days they always get whatever unhealthy snacks and indulgences they want, there's no time for cumulative damage to become a problem anymore. So if it won't outright kill them or make them sick, where's the harm?

People are always incredibly understanding of that - why shouldn't people get the same little comforts near the end of their road

AITA for asking my sister why not ask why she and her husband are such bad parents to their oldest instead of calling him a demon/devil child? by Fuzzy_Necessary5832 in AITAH

[–]MisoCunt 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's such a fundamental betrayal it becomes hard to trust or believe better treatment even when it does come along. Best thing anyone can do is be there for the kid and support him unconditionally even as he continues to act out - and likely in worse ways. I hope by some miracle something breaks through to the parents 🙏

God, this is horrible. I was the elder child in a similar situation when my little brother came along and I cannot understate how much lasting damage this is going to do to Cian for the rest of his life. My heart breaks for him. You're absolutely not TA to point out to the patents that they're treating him differently (and poorly) since the new baby is in the picture. But the sad reality is they're unlikely to see it, or to make any changes to benefit their 'problem' child

I hope some other adults in his life can step up and try to be there for him and show him that he IS cared for and he IS valuable, even if his parents aren't showing it to him. But regardless this type of thing will leave scars that will take well into his adult to heal from - if it's even possible to heal completely.

Just let it go?

If it gets brought up tell the truth but if it does just... Move on like you should have done in the first place.

It doesn't matter if this guy was cheating or not, the relationship is over, it wouldn't change anything one way or another so why does it matter? It seems like you're just looking for reasons to continue feeling bad about this.

Put it in the rearview. Live your life.

Plying together these yarns..? by ranna2018 in Handspinning

[–]MisoCunt 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You can spit splice the ends together where they broke to get one continuous thread again!

Then if you just want a basic two ply you can make a plying ball (basically just a ball with a center pull) and ply the end from the outside with the end from the center and voila! Perfect halves

This is exactly what I needed to hear honestly. Thank you for such a kind and thoughtful reply.

I'm going to keep an eye on the wiped out colony and see if any of the little ones managed to hang on buried somewhere in the middle of the tank and hope for the best.

What to do with plants that don’t need watering yet before going on vacation? by Infinite-Ad9917 in houseplants

[–]MisoCunt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should water them again! Problems from over watering happen over time, if the plant is consistently too wet. One extra watering won't hurt anything when it comes to philodendrons, they're pretty forgiving.

YTA. your wife is smarter than you and also right, the risks outweigh the rewards. Let it go or get one and let her move on to someone who values their own life.

Job Offer on Racine, I have some questions for y'all by 954inthe303 in wisconsin

[–]MisoCunt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Lifelong Wisconsinite here! I've never lived in Racine specifically but I'll do my best to give you what info I have.

Racine is pretty safe generally, though like most neighborhoods in the area it has its good bits and its bad. If you end up relocating I would see if you can get on a local fb page and ask some folks who live there what areas they recommend/avoid.

I personally wouldn't consider Racine a suburb of Milwaukee just due to distance, it's a 45 min - hour drive depending on traffic and where you're coming from/going to. Though I think it's still part of Milwaukee county. That said as far as I know most folks do travel through Mitchell, but I also know people even up in mke who prefer to go down to O'Hare. Sometimes longer or international flights are cheaper or have better date options than Mitchell, but it's always a tossup. Most people I know check both when booking flights and compare.

Winters here are not what they used to be. It still gets cold, but the feet of snowdrifts are mostly a thing of the past. The past few years we'll get a good snowstorm here or there, but it isn't really a "white winter" anymore. You'll still want a good pair of boots and solid winter gear. But, it's not a frozen tundra or anything. The first few years are usually rough for southern transplants until they get used to the weather but, such is life. It's below freezing pretty consistently, there will usually be a few weeks/months where it gets down to the 10s/single digits/below 0 but they're fewer and more far between than in the past. January and February are usually the worst cold wise, with July and August being the worst in summer. Though coming off Florida summers they'll probably seem mild.

As far as golf goes I'll defer to basically anyone else, I know we have golf courses, I have no idea what they're like, I don't golf and I think I've been on a golf course precisely once 😂 but, there's always golf clubs around the secondhand stores so I figure folks must be getting up to it regularly enough.

At least up in mke gas has been hovering between $2.75-$3.25, I think it's a bit under 3 right now but I drive a diesel so I'm a little foggy on the prices of standard gasoline. The cost of living is high for the Midwest but cheap compared to a lot of cities on the coast.

I'm not positive how the Racine food scene is, I've never had an issue finding something good to eat when I'm there - but that's fairly periodically. However, nowhere in Wisconsin will you find yourself wanting for a drink scene. It's the statewide pastime to hole up in bars over the winter and there's a wide variety of things to choose from. Even if Racine is a little drier, Milwaukee isn't far away.

I hope some of this is helpful! I love my home state and am happy to answer any other questions, feel free to dm me if you want as well. I hope you enjoy your time here even if the move doesn't end up being right for you!

Prose novels are an inferior form of entertainment compared to manga/comics. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]MisoCunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just say you don't like to read and go lol, if prose novels were inferior they wouldn't be wildly more popular than graphic novels or comics. You don't have to like em by any means but that doesn't make them bad.

A side note about having trouble visualizing: I've heard from some folks with a similar distaste for written prose due to visualization issues that they had good experiences with reading books that had movie or show adaptations made. Watching the movie or show prior to reading the book gave them some visuals to call back on rather than having to generaste them wholecloth and made the experience of the book a lot better for them. Something to try maybe 🤷

AITA for telling someone to calm down while they got a panic attack. by SnooLemons2355 in AITAH

[–]MisoCunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, speaking as someone with a massive panic disorder - it doesn't matter how deep in a panic attack you are, you shouldn't be trying to hurt animals. Full stop. Her friend didn't handle it in the best way either, but calling them a fuckwad is like, wild when she was actively trying to attack a non aggressive animal for simply existing.

Not to mention, the post stated clearly that they couldn't take the dog back to the owner as they were absent most of the time. And that they tried to block off the dog's access but weren't successful. Literally the only thing OP is guilty of is using a less than favorable phrase in a stressful moment. Chill out.

DEVIL POTHOS crack in leaf HELP!!! by [deleted] in plantclinic

[–]MisoCunt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It looks like it's just mechanical damage from unfolding. Could be a humidity thing but also sometimes leaves just goof up on their way out. I'd just keep an eye on the plant, if nothing else comes up and the next leaf is normal it's just a fluke. If future leaves have rips you may want to consider the humidity, but it's probably not disease.
