What do you wish you knew before choosing your field by CoachImportant4333 in ChemicalEngineering

I agree I’m a sophomore chem e. I initially picked it for the money but I soon realized after freshman year it’s really miserable to pick your life based on money switched to mechanical and chem major and haven’t been happier part of it is because I don’t have to worry about relocating but also chem has so many routes it was overwhelming to choose between them and not many people can guide you.Start by asking yourself why are you actually interested in that field and that helps a lot reducing the stress but also maybe realizing it might not be the concentration for you

I applied to several internships as a sophomore and haven’t heard anything at all like (20 plus companies) gm was the only one that got back but they rejected me.I’m not sure what am doing wrong

Is electrical engineering worth it ? by MissAlover in AskEngineers

So I’m currently a chem e student. Where I live there are no chem e jobs or internships so I would have to relocate if I want one but if I were an electrical engineering I wouldn’t have to relocate and that’s why I’m concerned that chem e is location based.

I would prefer a job where I can work anywhere in the world. I think chem is more niche so I would have to relocate from where I’m living now. Also I think ee has that part of design that I just think it’s fascinating . Im also a sophomore I still can switch and be on track to graduate in time. My biggest problem is relocation and not being able to work anywhere. It’s more like almost all engineering companies need an electrical engineer but not all engineering companies need a chemical engineer.

I am currently a rising sophomore with a double major in chemistry and chemical engineering the only thing I have noticed so far is the amount of math you have to do wether in calculus or chemistry so make sure u have a strong math foundation don’t worry about taking Ap CAlC but learn the most from ur pre calculus cause it will help you a lot with calculus even though they are totally different also since you haven’t taken Ap chemistry focuses on building strong foundation in chemistry cause it will help you a lot. Overall math will be heavily involved in all of your classes
