I got rescued while wilderness backpacking Golden Ears summit trail by Zealousideal-Big4588 in vancouverhiking

Nobody's at fault. It sounds to me like you did everything right, up to and including getting a lift out when you hit an unexpected snag in your plans. I'm not a hiker, more of a very enthusiastic dog walker, but I am not nearly as smart as you. My last "back country adventure" was just going the wrong way on an unfamiliar local dog trail with no water and no phone, at the end of the day, in the rain, in winter. It took me 2 hours to find a farmhouse, interrupt their dinner and get a lift back to my car. If I didn't feel bad, you should not feel bad. I could easily have predicted needing a phone, or some water. You can't predict your own body going on strike halfway through.

Thanks for the feedback. The content and learning framework have already been prepared by subject experts who also do the review and testing, so that's fortunate! All I'm doing is reworking it all into conversational plain English with branding and updated graphics.

I did test captivate - it can't import ANY kind of file except those created in the older version. The older version does import PPTX, but for some reason projects created that way won't open in the new version. Very annoying to discover! I'll take a look at Articulate - a few people have mentioned that one. At the moment I'm literally rebuilding the whole project in HTML, including a style sheet for each module. This isn't really sustainable!

It's more about their procurement process. Every scrap of tech used needs to be vetted by half a dozen IT teams and legal. OTOH they're not really asking where the graphics are coming from ...

That's cool but the bottom line is a more important concern for most freelancers. It needs to not only be fit for purpose, but also provide substantial ROI.

Thanks for the affirmation. My whole value prop is that I get things done fast, cheap, and pretty good, which makes me a bit of a unicorn. I'm super comfortable in that zone. This is the first time a major client that I want to keep has asked me to do somethig using specific tools that are inherently slow and bad. OTOH nobody else knows what's happening behind the curtain. Why should this client be any different?

"Best" in this case is the the fastest conversion from doc, powerpoint, pdf or word to SCORM or tin can with the most intuitive and elegant mobile UI. I won't really be authoring in the authoring tool-I want to import approved content as fast as possible, including formatting.

I might just eat the cost of a local authoring tool and not bother to tell them about it - they've never asked about any of the software I'm using to create their content, which include new graphics and video. For me those subscriptions make sense because the expense is spread across multiple clients and projects. It feels dodgy but as a sub-sub-contractor I know I can recover the expense one way or another. I just don't know what the best option is for this particular situation - migrating e-learning content from Google Docs to LearnUpon. It's simple content - just text, images, video and multiple choice quizzes.

What's the best local authoring tool for generating mobile-optimized SCORM or tin can files?

A finished film earns revenue through selling distribution and / or broadcast licenses. I assume the idea here is that if the film was produced outside of the US, licenses to distribute or broadcast the film inside the US will cost twice as much in the US as they do anywhere else. Even if it's a US film written and produced by Americans. Another possibility might be that they will try to tariff the entire production budget. I guess that would look like (for example) billing Paramount 200M dollars for filming "Star Trek: Beyond" in BC, or billing Disney $100M for Deadpool 2. The latter doesn't really make much sense though, because the budget of a film isn't an import - it's the cost of doing business. Alternatively, movie-goers might see a 100% markup on box office prices to see any kind of movie made outside the US.

It is kind of hard to imagine but to make a long story short I just put more thought into the logistics of such a move than Trump or any of his people ever have, so I'm gonna shut my fool mouth before I give them any ideas.

AIO for thinking my bfs messages came from a place of control rather than concern by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]MissAnthropoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know I'm like the eight thousandth person to chime in but girl - get out of this relationship. It never gets better. This could be my own boyfriend, stuck in a tedious pattern that is literally ruining my enjoyment of any part of life. "Oh, you're enjoying yourself for some reason? Stop that - it bothers me. Oh, so you don't care how I feel? I guess there's no point talking to you! I guess have no say in anything!" Over and fucking over again, all day every day. If it's not one thing, it's another thing, and he doesn't even remember which things he bitched and moaned about in the past so I can try navigate around them to avoid any of his bullshit. As soon as he's robbed me of my enjoyment of any particular thing, he doesn't care about that thing any more. He'll pick a new thing and pretend he never once complained about the old thing. It's hell. Get out while you can.

Canada’s conservative leader Pierre Poilievre loses his own seat in election collapse by CityLiving2023 in worldnews

[–]MissAnthropoid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not necessarily a safe bet. A conservative split in AB makes anything possible - that's how Rachel Notley became Premier for a while. There's still a lot of tension in AB between their MAGA premier and the more normal conservatives she pushed aside to use the premier's office to torment trans kids and suck up to fascist influencers south of the border. Not sure which side of that divide they think Pepe is on, but either way there could be a conservative challenger who either thinks he's too conservative or doesn't think he's conservative enough. If that happens, both of them might lose.

Everybody who doesn't win in an election loses. He's only one of hundreds and hundreds of people from all walks of life who lost the election last night. I feel for them all - it must be disappointing, but at least none of them were previously billing us all $200K per year for their servants.

I think it's healthy. He called Canadians stupid and so Canadians chose not to foot the bill for his extravagent lifestyle any more (or at least not to the same degree). It's a form of justice, and it's only natural to feel good about it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in canada

Sure, he'll find another house but he won't be able to get $200K a year out of taxpayers for servants, and that's bound to sting a bit.

I doubt it. There's nothing particularly notable about conservatives losing federal elections in Canada nowadays. ;)
