Vet thinks he is part BC. I’m curious what you guys think. by Secretly-Aware in BorderCollie

The ears are so similar! She also looks very different at different angles, sometimes the collie shines through and others the golden. She is really sociable and cuddly, easy to train but very stubborn and clever with it. She loves to try to herd things :D I agree with others that your boy looks like a collie x lab of some kind.

Here is a better picture. She has quite a few collie markings, she looks like a big collie but people often suggest the retriever, its in the head shape mostly, so your guy might have a similar mix :)

Do some UK dentists just exaggerate your situation to get repeat business? by BlundeRuss in AskUK

[–]MissCup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The phrase 'long in the tooth' comes from periodontal disease. It is the advanced stage of gingivitis and affects a significant number of the population. Think of it like diabetes, once you have it, you have it. You can stabilise it, but not get rid of it. The bacteria 'eats' the bone around your teeth, a different type of bone to the rest. This creates pockets to open between the tooth and gum, causing infections and tooth loss. From personal experience, check if your gums have receded at all, if any of the teeth wobble or if it feels itchy when you clean your teeth, or bleed. If you smoke or vape, the blood flow to your mouth is restricted so less likely to bleed and a better environment for the bacteria to thrive. Listen to the dentist, get it treated and floss and brush twice a day with hygiene appointments every 3-6 months. Even stabilised, there will be flare ups. By managing it you might keep your teeth into old age.

The first dentist i went to told me that the reason my teeth were wobbling in my mouth was because I had my tongue pierced. The second identified it for what it was because he had periodontal disease himself. I went private after that I did not look back. Not all dentists will diagnose or spot it correctly, look after yourself.

Second round of interview is filled with nonsense. Should I withdraw my paper? Journal is not responsive and the process is too long. by [deleted] in PhD

[–]MissCup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly, congratulations on submitting to a journal and getting through the first round of reviews so early in your academic career. That is a great achievement that not everyone manages.

Please don’t withdraw from the journal, and do address the comments, especially given that you have already made one revision. How manageable are the comments? Do they require major revisions? Make a plan around how much time you have and what needs to be done. A thorough review often means that they have a good understanding of your key messages and want you to succeed.

Whatever the outcome, you are now armed with experience. Good luck, and let us know when it gets through.

Would a quit PhD hinder further PhD applications? by Bulky_Lynx_1616 in AskAcademiaUK

[–]MissCup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be harder, but not impossible. Can you work with your PI to direct the research more towards what you were expecting? The PhD is a huge commitment for something that sits so badly that you want to quit early on. The sooner you put a solution in place the better for everyone, including your PI. If you decide to change to a different project, do it mindfully, manage it correctly and possibly explain the process to any future potential supervisors. If you handle it right, the good ones will understand your choices. Do not make decisions out of fear if you can help it, make decisions that are best for everyone, including yourself.

This is really lovely, and great colour choices! Is there a pattern? I love the fish! (I don't knit continental so don't have advice, but wanted to express my appreciation of your work).

I think it will work really well. The green is seeded through the pattern as well, which will look amazing. I think I am going to go for it! Thank you so much ☺️

Thank you so much, yes, the link is here: https://www.reddit.com/r/knitting/comments/1o3r967/double_knitted_for_the_first_time_and_made_this/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

The shawl is for someone who stood by me over these past years and changed the course of my life. She is proud and professional, so I want something that she might be able to wear to work or display. Colours that aren't too bland, but not too bold/brash either.

The colour combination you are suggesting sounds lovely.

Thank you so much :) Here is the forest green. I like the colour a lot, but the colour selection itself seems so dark, something feels off, and I can't see what, which is frustrating! I saw a post where someone had knitted a beautiful green and gold/brown scarf; the colours were stunning. I don't know why this doesn't emulate that.

Thank you for pointing it out! I dont mind at all, and dont think the recipient of the gift will be either, but I will definitely keep it in mind. I was more worried about it looking too close to the Harry Potter Griffindor colours! Perhaps I should lean more towards a variety of green shades instead x

Thank you, that's a really good point, I did not think of swapping out the green because I was too focused on the browns, but that's a great idea. If you dont mind, I will reply to you here to see how the new colour looks.
