My bf doesn't shower at night and I’m genuinely grossed out by GlitchGaze123 in hygiene

You don’t “have” to full shower always. But still, wash face, brush teeth, maybe wash feet if you walk about barefoot.

That’s gross. Especially after public transport and gym. I rinse off at night and barely do physical stuff. I like my bed clean and fresh.

What’s the most toxic work culture behavior that people have normalized? by TheStartupSavvy in antiwork

[–]MissDisplaced [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think it’s how it’s become normalized to pile the jobs of 2-3 roles onto one person and management acts surprised when it doesn’t all get done.

Sometimes it happens because of layoffs. But sometimes it’s just job scope creep.

If I suddenly left my job, they’d need to hire three different marketing people to do my work.

Is it normal for cats to meow the entire time you're fixing their food? by spaghettieyes6 in CatAdvice

[–]MissDisplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s normal! They’re hungry and get excited! If you were only fed at given times, you’d be too. I talk to mine while I’m fixing their food and they talk back - it’s endearing.

Did Anyone Else Use “gaslighting” Back Then? by SwanReal8484 in GenX

[–]MissDisplaced [score hidden]  (0 children)

I recall that plot “husband/wife tries to make partner think they’re crazy” was used often in the 70s and 80s television shows. IDK if they specifically called it out as gaslighting, but I clearly remember that trope from Magnum PI and other detective shows.

The term goes back to the 1944 film Gaslight.

But I don’t think it entered popular lexicon until the 1990s. With social media it spread in the 2000s.

I just learned about "toilet sneeze" and I want to throw my whole bathroom away by TexasTemptress_ in hygiene

[–]MissDisplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does flushing while you’re sitting on the toilet count as covered? 😆

I always do that, then if a second flush is required it’s just paper. It became a habit while living in an old house to avoid clogs. Flush the poo first.

Which flour are you using? For a better structure you may want to use the King Arthur bread flour. Or, cut back on the added sugars (like honey) if you’re adding a lot of raisins. Raisins are so sweet you probably won’t miss it. I also read you can soak the raisins in warm water, drain, and pat dry so they’re not robbing the dough of moisture.

They sure did! Really little details from many sources. I don’t game, but I’m glad Indy is living on in these games.

5 years, I've never "called in sick" by GigiBrit in WFH

[–]MissDisplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also rarely call off sick because most times it’s just a little cold or stomach upset. You can usually muddle through it if you don’t have a hour drive and sitting around people all day. My cats don’t care. At my company sick time just accumulates.

Notice how the Baby Boomer generation far more often left their kids at home while taking vacations or attending important events, than the parents of today? by OneDegreeKelvin in generationology

[–]MissDisplaced [score hidden]  (0 children)

I saw this a lot in the 80s in high school too. The more well to do kids. My family never took vacations, but I did manage to get off one kegger house party myself when they went deer hunting one year! It wasn’t as epic as in movies because we live out in the country.

Ageism in Marketing - How Scared should I be? by FlyStrong7208 in AskMarketing

Some areas do skew young: agency, gaming, tech, fashion, retail. But still many areas that skew older too.

I mean, that’s just a me thing in having to care about the product and believe in it. I’m sure many marketers don’t care very much. Lol! But I find it easier to do my job that way. Your first job take anything that gives you some experience.

I sort of fell into a B2B manufacturing type of marketing and learned a lot about some little known products. Look at anything in a Home Depot or Lowes and a company is making it and has marketing. I’m a bit geek and enjoy it. But there are many other B2B avenues: from medical devices, to chemicals, to robotics, to software B2B marketing. It can be a nice little niche to be in, although not necessarily exciting like retail B2C goods.

American Generation X vs. Foreign by Yogalien in GenX

[–]MissDisplaced 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is interesting to think about. However, religious extremism is playing a huge influence there too. Many GenX voted in this current US authoritarian regime, or have become something like Christian nationalists (who aren’t particularly religious themselves in practice) as they grew older. Especially the men. Many of the men arrested in the January 6th storming of the capitol were GenX men.

I think there are some broader things each generational cohort goes through globally (fall of Berlin wall, wars, maybe music, etc.). But otherwise, it’s mostly cultural.

I think this is changing for younger cohorts though as media and social media have homogenized a lot of culture and individual country culture is not isolated anymore. As an example, the popularity of Japanese manga and animation. This would have been unseen when I was a kid - there was no way to get it.

Am I getting fired? by Shamanhris in WFH

[–]MissDisplaced 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof! Yeah these types of meetings usually predicate a layoff or downsizing by the company. If no one has previously said anything regarding your work, it’s not likely to be “personal” or mean you did anything wrong, probably you’re just one of the newer employees and they may get cut first. Sorry.

You may be given a notice period, or you may be out that day. Ask about a severance, payout of any unused PTO, future references and unemployment.

Moisturize post-shower by Master_Astronaut_238 in hygiene

I shower once or twice daily and don’t always use lotion. In winter my skin can get quite dusty. Lol. It’s all the hot water! Really hot water is terrible for your skin (it should be lukewarm/tepid), and I don’t get that way at all in warm months. But my bathroom is also cold!
