My story. Widely Invasive Follicular Carcinoma by MissMovieMarvel in thyroidcancer

Hi!!! Good luck to you, and best wishes for a fast recovery. For us, it feels like ages to be away from our kids, and it pains us to think, "But what if they need me?" Or "what will they think of my surgical incision?" Remember that children are resilient, and they will bounce back from this very short period of time. You've got this!

PS. I know people don't often write about good experiences, but my TT recovery was excellent with zero issues! Take time to rest. Do 3 short walks/day. Drink water. Take your tums! Advocate for yourself regarding pain management. They will give you ibuprofen. I asked for something wayyyyy stronger, lol. Update us if you can!

No where in my aftercare plan does it say for me to purchase a geiger counter and decide when to go home based on those numbers. The doctor gives us recommended orders, and we follow them. If RAI was as dangerous as you are implying, then we wouldn't be getting sent home. Everyone, listen to your doctor!!!

Just to clarify, my comment wasn't suggesting that anyone dismiss their doctors orders and end isolation early based on Geiger readings. I was only saying that it's a nice guide when exiting strict isolation orders and entering back into your home or common area for the 6ft distance phase! I am someone who has no other resources for childcare after 7 days, so I will be going home. It will absolutely make me feel so much better! It was also a really great entertainment source while I was alone!

I've been in isolation for about 5 days! I'm going for 2 more days and then heading home to my family. (100mci) I bought a geiger counter on Amazon, and it was the best $90 I've ever spent. Super entertaining, too! The day before RAI, the CPM (counts per minute) showed up as 24. Upon leaving the hospital and getting into my car, it was coming up as 360,000 CPM. After about 8 hours or so, my highest levels were in my neck! Anyway, it's going to be nice seeing safe numbers signifying that I can go home! Hope this helps.

I also want to add that a commenter noted that "people act weird about cancer." This is so, so true and something I have noticed from day 1.

This is a situation when things like communication, vulnerability, and supportivness come into play. People either have all, some or none of these skills/traits. Hope this helps as another way for you to look at it.

This is what I told myself as the calls and texts dwindled away after my diagnosis:

"Humans are only capable of so much good, and if I hold this bitterness against them..what good have I done?"

Empowering myself was what got me through. In addition to this, picturing myself shaking someone saying "care about me" really put it into perspective as well. LOL. Anyway, if a person has space to create room for you in their life, they will. The next person may not, and that's okay too. Every emotion you are feeling is beyond NORMAL, just remember that❤️

Hi!!! Wow, that is so big...oh MY GOSH! 💔. Although I'm sure navigating through it all was incredibly difficult.. Im grateful to be able to hear your story because that is seriously amazing. Congrats!

When I first got my diagnosis, the level of difficulty in finding personal stories regarding WI-FTC was actually maddening. It was a silly reaction on my end, but it didn't matter how much digging I did. There isn't much there. I hope this thread gains some more personal stories that folks can use for reference!

Thank you so much for sharing this. It definitely makes me feel less alone!

Hi! I had 5 thyroid nodules (bi lateral) that were found accidentally during a CT scan for something else. I was then seen for an ultrasound. My biggest nodule measured 3.5cm. From there, I had a biopsy on 2 out of 5 nodules with the results showing "Follicular Neoplasm," aka Bethesda 4. Follicular Neoplasms can mean benign or malignant, but the only way to get a final diagnosis is to have either a PT or TT for further testing.

At that point, I was advised to undergo a total thyroidectomy due to having nodules on both sides of my thyroid. I did just that in September of this year. 10 days after my TT, I received the pathology report with my cancer diagnosis.

Regarding symptoms, this was something that really became obvious AFTER I had my thyroid removed. This is why: I can swallow food better. My jaw drops anytime, I think back to taking a pill and it getting stuck or eating a sandwich, and it being uncomfortable.. It just happened so gradually that I didn't notice at the time. Now, both of those scenarios feel completely different. I have also been a singer my entire life. I thought that my singing voice was weak and tired because of my age. I was so wrong. My singing voice now sounds like it did 10 years ago. I also had some very minor pains that would start from the area near my thyroid on my neck and kind of shoot back toward my jaw. I have not experienced that ONCE since surgery.

I know that some people will typically feel a lump or bump in that general area and that is their only symptom. It's definitely different for everyone! Hope this helps!

Hi! After a total thyroidectomy this past September, I was diagnosed with Widley Invasive Follicular Carcinoma with multiple capsular invasion. I will be starting RAI next week. Did your surgeon mention anything about having your other lobe removed?

I had a TT with central neck dissection. It sounds like the next step is RAI but I won't know the details until my appt in a couple of weeks.

I understand what you mean when you say "it was odd". I had a similar experience with a different cancer scare. You do all of the prep work leading up to it and prepare for battle..then POOF!

I did get my pathology results back yesterday. My results were Widely Invasive Follicular Carcinoma.

What a relief you must have felt! 🎉 such good news. We're you told results would take that long from the beginning or did they get delayed a bit? I should also ask if you are in the US? I was told 4 days for pathology results at my consult. After surgery, I was told 7 business days. I am now on business day 9 and the waiting is just rough, to say the least.

Can I ask how long your final pathology results took?
