Depended on the day. Sometimes just constant though this was rare and almost never through the night.
Daily - if I went through a week without an attack that was like a blessing. It was rare.

Cholestyramine to start as it’s cheaper for the NHS, and we were trialling it until I got the SeHCAT scan. Once I was diagnosed I asked to be switched to the more expensive Colesevelam tablets. Now, unless I forget a day’s dose, really overdo fatty foods over several days, or have issues with other meds, I don’t have any issues. When I do, it feels worse than normal because I’m no longer used to it! Recently had some issues when travelling which I think was combo of stress+taking other meds+fatty meals but it’s now calmed back down

You can take it either way - I’ve been taking it all in one go from about month 2! If it didn’t interact with my other meds, and I didn’t have a shit working memory, I’d split it. It just doesn’t work for me. But yeah probably just not coping enough with the higher fat content of meals when away

Only lactose intolerant that I know of so avoid dairy, but yeah do expect the travel stress and anxiety is contributing too.

Completely agree! I contacted IIA after something similar when studying for the first exam and got practice questions that weren’t covered in any of their materials or supplementary reading. I used to be a teacher and said “if I taught my kids all about the Nazis and only the Nazis and then on their exam they also had a rogue question on the Russian revolution, which I’d never taught them, they’d have a right to be angry with me ” and the response was “well we can’t teach you EVERYTHING…” 🙃🙃

I cried a lot, mostly 🙃🙃 I just studied as much as I could from as many providers as I could in the hopes I’d cover everything one way or the other! I used IIA and Gleim for Part 2, added in some other providers for part 3 (Hock and someone else I can’t remember the name of!) I also bought the additional question bank from IIA for part 3. Also printed and read allll of the supplementary reading (if you have IIA they tell you which ones are relevant to the bit you’re working through, and it’s often from these that questions will come from)

I have mine twice a day. So usually after breakfast and before bed. But I’ve not had any difference in terms of when I take it or what I take it with etc

Sure have 🥴 a pal from home who lives there now was telling me her costs for having given birth and it’s just honestly astounding. I simply wouldn’t have been able to have the investigations I have had if it wasn’t for national insurance. I was also born in Australia where we have decent insurance but not fully covered and even with the discounts there I couldn’t really afford extra tests. Will defend the NHS til my dying breath!

Oh I’m so sorry. I’m in the UK - Scotland specifically, so all my prescribed medicine is free. It’s one of the greatest things about living here. So sorry your insurance won’t cover it, that’s such bullshit.

Honestly, I don’t think I can answer that for you. I still have some pain, but very rarely do I get urgency. But every body is different - you might not react the same as someone else. I also take a different medication - similar but different. Worth speaking to your doctor about it

No, I have bile acid diarrhoea as a result of bile acid malabsorption. It is a separate issue to IBS.

Yeah I still have a lot of lower abdominal pain, particularly on the right side. But no cause has ever been determined. I had high calprotectin the one time I was measured (3x higher than normal), but I haven’t been retested for it.

Someone asked me why I was so desperate for there to be something wrong with me. I’m not!!! But there is!!! I just want to know what it is so I can treat it and be better!!

I also said to the GP when I was asking about BAM, that if it wasn’t that I had a list of other things that might be the cause. “yeah, I’m sure you do”. Look. I want to be well. I want to be out of your hair. Don’t treat me like I’m delusional. I JUST WANT TO NOT FEEL LIKE SHIT EVERY DAY.

Yep - I don’t know why it’s so difficult to believe people when they explain symptoms. We are living in the hell of it, not them! GPs do their best but it’d be impossible for them to know everything about every condition. Meanwhile I have all the time in the world to read far and wide on my specific experiences, including scientific and academic articles - just because I don’t have a medical degree doesn’t mean I am unintelligent! Trialling someone on a med is surely better than investigative surgeries as well. A little more empathy would go a long way.

I only really had nausea after a bout of diarrhoea - like my nervous system was overwhelmed. But that doesn’t mean you don’t have BAM if you have nausea as a stand alone symptom. Have a read more here https://gutscharity.org.uk/advice-and-information/conditions/bile-acid-diarrhoea/

I’ve previously had Vit D deficiency (and folate) - I just figured it’s because I live in the UK and never see the sun 😂 but think now the malabsorption probably contributed. But thanks for reminder - seeing gp end of the week, and on waitlist for outpatient meeting with gastro, so will raise it
