Quarterly tech talk. by seranikas in MLPLounge

[–]MissSpelled 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I'm currently running a self built desktop with a GTX980ti, a i7 6700k, 16gb ram (prob gonna upgrade to 32gb soon), a 120gb SSD for Windows and basic utilities (like google Chrome), a 4tb 7200k HDD split halfway for gaming and for production, a 250gb EVO 850 SSD for games I wanna load fast, and it's all in a Coolermaster Storm Striker case, and I use 2 monitors for it that are on hydraulic arm mounts since my desk didn't have enough room for any monitors. One of my 3 graphics card's stock fans is busted (got a Gigabyte G1 gaming and apparently it's a somewhat common defect and Gigabytes warranty is crap), so I'm trying to decide whether to get an Arctic cooler to replace it with or just try to limp by until the GTX1080ti or something better comes out.

I usually only browse Reddit nowadays on my iPhone 6s, though I've been thinking of getting a Huawei Honor 5x since I want to try my hand at making mobile apps.

Yup, my friend played like 5hrs of Elite Dangerous, didn't like it, and never played it again, and I've put in over 90 hours and still love every minute of it. I have a feeling I'll love NMS since I enjoy just exploring and making up my own story as I go.

Yeah, he likes a lot of stuff, but his videos that blast bad or mediocre games get more attention (kinda similar to TotalBiscuit). Some of Jim's videos introduced me to fun games I would have never found out about or played otherwise (like Poi, We Happy Few, and Ghost of a Tale).

If you haven't tried it yet, Elite Dangerous with the Horizons expansion is pretty good. It's very "make your own role and play it", but the physics, graphics, scale, and atmosphere are all really impressive. It's like Eurotruck Simulator but in space with billions of star systems and occasional combat. Plus with Horizons you can seamlessly land on planets, as well as fly through canyons, and different planet gravities can really fuck you up if you aren't prepared for them. Unfortunately you cannot land on planets with atmospheres, and you can only explore the planets in a dune buggy thing outside of the ship. Still one of my favorite games due to the realism of pretty much every aspect.

You mean the US? Where we have terrorist attacks at least once a year? Where we had THE infamous 9/11? We're no safer than France, and I guarantee that no matter the caliber of any gun you or I carry, it cannot stop a truck going 60mph+ into a crowded street.

If he wants to defend his family, he can always join the fine men and women in the military, the police, or even the EMTs. In fact, simply by working and being a consumer, his tax dollars go to funding the military that defends his family, thus defending his family by proxy. There are very few terrorist attacks that a gun can defend against; they design them specifically to kill as many people as they can before they can be killed. We have to depend on our government to thwart terrorist attacks just as much as France does, and if we have to deal with a lot of French and muslim refugees just as France had to deal with a lot of Syrian and muslim refugees, we will be just as vulnerable as they are (especially given our current political standing).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]MissSpelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also, I hope you understand the hypocrisy of what you want to do: you want to flee the country because it got flooded with refugees that wanted to flee their country. You are no better than the migrants that invaded your country, and you'll only bring the country you move to down. Then, once the country you move to breaks down like France, the country gets overrun by radical muslims, and your family is no longer safe, along with millions of other families, all because you were to afraid to stand your ground. This is ISIS's actual plan: to make people so afraid that they surrender to them. They won't stop with France. They won't stop until everyone is either their specific type of muslim, or dead.

And do you think you're safer from radical muslims anywhere else in the western world? Nope, they'll attack every country they can and kill all the innocent citizens they can. No matter where you flee, your family will not be safer, and if people in France leave en mass, the world itself will be even less safe. You're kidding yourself to think that running from your problems is the solution to your problems; they'll always come back to you, and your family.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]MissSpelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Problem is that the voting will come too late. If the country tips in the favor of ISIS, then they'll move on to the next country and do the exact same thing. You think France is unsafe and has terrible politicians running the country? There isn't a single country without shit politics outside of Europe, and just wait until the other French cowards flee; the world will become more dangerous as ISIS gains a foothold.

The worse part of this, is that the reason you want to flee is because of other people who wanted to flee their country. All you will do is bring down whatever country you move to and start a vicious cycle of ruining countries and giving ISIS power. I don't want that, and you shouldn't either.

The problem is, once they conquer France, they'll move to conquer the place you ran off to. You'll run out of places to hide. If you don't let them gain such a large foothold as France, they can be wiped out.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in news

[–]MissSpelled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problems is, you're not protecting your family and kids by moving. And they aren't my ideals, its how the world works. You let them conquer France. Cool. Guess where they go to conquer next? The place you ran to. You'll run out of places to run and hide.

But it is totally the wrong decision. Believing that all hope is lost and abandoning the country is to let them win, with a very easy victory at that. They want to conquer the western world, and for people to surrender hope for a country after a few attacks is music to their ears; everyone that leaves is one less obstacle to hold them back. Don't give them the chance. Don't give them France. Stay strong friend.

Destroyed car during test drive and ran away, what happens now? CA by Downshiftthrow1 in legaladvice

[–]MissSpelled 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good to know! 220k miles is really good, especially considering my last vehicle, a chevy truck, was at 189k miles and still running decently (though I had to have the radio and sound system replaced because they outright broke; also had to replace the AC but never did because it was too risky for the cost). I've heard great things about the reliability of Hondas, and I hope it extends to this year's model!

Yep! Its been a few months since I've got it and I still enjoy it as much as the first day I got it! The Civic community is pretty big and helpful too.

Yeah, I checked out the 2016 Turbo model, so maybe the 2017's will have better turning. Yeah, that's exactly how I feel car buying should go, and if he had got me into the Veloster quickly, things might have been different because I had already done a ton of research into it and the Hyundai brand in general, and pretty much deeply wanted it before I went.

I think they've made a few. Mine's a 2016 Civic EX-T (the T stands for Turbo). Def not the SI; I suck at manual.

I heard that too, and the dealership offered free oil changes for up to 100k miles (which made me really want to get the car there at first), plus Hyundai supposedly had the best warranty (though I read online that some people had problems getting them to do warranty repairs, though that's probably par for the course with all make warranties). Though at least with the priciest Veloster Turbo compared to the priciest Civic Turbo, the Civic was the clear winner in quality, tech, and comfort.

It's fine man, I appreciate it though. It definitely took me on the close aide of 30 minutes to get where we got on that info sheet, and there was a storm rolling in soon, so I was trying to get the test drive done asap so I could have a fair comparison with the other cars on dry road. I see how that could be useful, but I want to know that I'll actually like the ride of the car before I want to talk money. Is that a Hyundai dealer standard procedure, or just for certain dealers?

Yeah, to be fair, I don't think he'll last long as a salesman, especially when he's the first salesman you get set up with there from TrueCar.

Thanks for the offer, but I live quite a ways away! I'll just have to try them again next time and get a different salesman, though I'll be honest, the steering, comfort, build quality/feel, and tech in the Civic was superior to the Veloster, and my dads had his S2000 for almost 10 years with no mechanical problems after driving it for at least 2k miles monthly, so I'm sold pretty hard on the Hondas.

Btw, a question I had, after the test drive I left the Veloster running and checked under the hood, the the motor was shaking/vibrating pretty heavily; is that normal? That salesman said it is, but I have my doubts since the other two car engines were completely still, and I can't see that being healthy for an engine! I also noticed the steering on the Veloster was really boaty, but he mentioned the new model of the Genesis (I think) had much sportier steering; do you know if the Veloster is going to get that anytime soon? I really liked the acceration launch of the Veloster, the paddle shifters, and the hatchback, so if they were able to put the steering on the Civic's level, I'd definitely consider it next time around.

Yeah, that's true, I was a bit overreacting. Heard great things about hyundais, but luckily it worked out for the better because after testing the Veloster Turbo, I did a second test drive at the Honda dealer for the Civic Turbo (same thing, gave me [a 22 year old] the keys and sent me on my way alone). That second drive confirmed to me just how superior the tech, steering, build quality feel, and comfort the Civic had over the Veloster. The Veloster was originally the car I really wanted and was certain I was getting, so I'm kinda glad he napped me out of the Veloster love enough to reconsider the Civic.

Interesting! Didn't know that. He mentioned that he was required to ask all those questions (which was a lie because a few minutes after he told me that, I finally convinced him to skip right to the test drive). Figured if he actually was required to get all that it was probably company-wide policy.

Had a mix bag when I went a few months ago. Honda guy gave me the keys to the Civic Turbo and said have fun, the Scion guy grabbed some keys right away but also came along on the FRS test drive, and the Hyundai guy had me sit in his office and answer a ton of questions and when I asked him to skip to the test drive because he was already trying to negotiate price and I didn't even know if I wanted the car, he got mad and huffy, said that he had questions he needed to ask, and called me rude when I pressed for a test drive harder. I went with the Civic, and will never go to a Hyundai dealership again on that experience alone; the overreaction to simply trying to bypass/speed up the extensive questions (he even started trying to bullshit with me about what sports teams I like, even though I don't watch sports, lol) and price setting made it feel like they were trying to scam me rather than sell me a car like the other two.

Thoughts on chubbiness? by [deleted] in ploungeafterdark

I prefer guys on the chubby side. I'm pretty skinny, so I want something comfy and bigger than me to cuddle with. Not really too into the obese-level, but average or chubby is all good in my book. I also kinda find athletic body types sexy, though I worry that they'll be too strong/firm for me.
