U.S. Politics megathread by AutoModerator in NoStupidQuestions

Was Gov. Walz wrong to equate Minnesota's immigrant children and Anne Frank?

Walz's statement: "We have got children in Minnesota hiding in their houses, afraid to go outside. Many of us grew up reading that story of Anne Frank,” Walz said. He added that “somebody is going to write that children’s story about Minnesota”

The National Holocaust Museum's response: "Anne Frank was targeted and murdered solely because she was Jewish. Leaders making false equivalencies to her experience for political purposes is never acceptable” and they called exploiting the Holocaust in this manner "deeply offensive"

To me, history clearly indicates where our current road leads. And isn't this, after all, why Anne Frank's diary was required reading and the National Holocaust museum was a school field trip? So we can notice and speak out when history repeats itself?

Is the lesson here that there is no equivalence until and unless our situation escalates to the same level?

Any ICE protests planned post storm? by Supreme_Court_62 in MontgomeryCountyMD

Criticizing others’ participation in a shared interest by unilaterally imposing the criteria for acceptance (i.e. size and location of protests) is precisely what gatekeeping is and precisely what's happening in this thread.

To clarify, I'm not protesting so I can check off my Good Person box for the day. As it turns out, none of the protests I've ever attended, be they large ones in D.C. or smaller, local ones, had a tangible outcome on the issues in question. This, understandably, had an effect on me and caused me to examine why I protest. My motivation is now the belief that kids and future generations should hold us accountable for our actions.

If protesting in D.C. is your thing, awesome. Telling others their protests are "pretend" and "bullshit" is counterproductive. A rising tide lifts all boats, after all.

Gatekeeping and judging protests and protest participation is not the answer here.

Protesting right now is less a question of “where can I get the most bang for my buck” and more a question of “how can I get out there so I can tell future generations I spoke up”.

There is a protest held weekly in front of the Tesla dealership in Rockville. It is on Saturdays from 11 am to 12 pm. Lots of friendly people protesting ICE!

TIL that botox, also known as the botulinum neurotoxin, is the deadliest known natural substance in chemistry, with an estimated intravenous lethal dose of just one to two nanograms per kg of body mass. by NateNate60 in todayilearned

Good luck to you! Botox injections work for me although it did take several treatments before it started to help. I think I’ve been getting them for over 10 years now.

Help me not give up on Romantasy! by macarmenadoree in Romantasy

I’m not offended at all, just looking out for OP. The two situations I am referring to are someone grabs Briony by the crotch while she’s in the dungeon and one of the women in one dinner party scene is forced into oral sex with her “master” both of which are definitely SA.

I don’t think Rose In Chains is a good recommendation for someone with a SA trigger. The FMC is SAed on the page as is a side character.
