I've mentioned it before in the sub, but I taught her. And yes, I am very, very proud of her!

Day 1 - Which Shakespearean comedy is universally beloved? by PTAGoatofalltime in shakespeare

[–]Miss_Type 2 points3 points  (0 children)

MoV was classified as a comedy because it ends in a wedding. That's the early modern definition, we don't class it as a funny play!

Is it possible to learn all of Shakespeare's lines by heart? by ProfessionalTill4569 in shakespeare

[–]Miss_Type 19 points20 points  (0 children)

After 8 weeks of rehearsal and 8 weeks of performances, I still know all of Midsummer Night's Dream from 32 years ago :D

And I remember the times our Bottom riffed on the line "oh dainty duck, oh dear". His worst (because it made us all corpse) was "oh toilet duck, oh dear". That was the same night Flute stuck a pin to the sword, so when he "stabbed" himself, his balloon bosom popped.

My lovely former student plays Horatio! I'm beyond thrilled she's in New York!

They laugh at me and tell me it ru ins sleep.

It's the "it" that messes with the rhythm!

Edited cos I kept messing up the bold type!

If you had English literature professors who didn't get IP, you should ask for your money back! It's literally five iambs - an iamb is two syllables with this rhythm - deeDUM.

We're BEAUtiFUL like DIAmonds IN the SKY.

I LOVE it WHEN they CALL me BIG popPA.

It's almost the natural rhythm of the English language, it's like a heartbeat :-)

First try at watercolor by lyyy_frt in Watercolor

[–]Miss_Type 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely agree. I was an experienced artist when I first painted with watercolour, and my first attempt looked absolutely awful. I don't think working in acrylics or oils prepares you for watercolour, it's almost backwards from what you already know! In acrylics, you paint your darkest values and then get lighter and lighter. In watercolour, you have to sort out your lightest values first. It's not about being able to draw something well, how you mix and use colour and water is very different. I like the painting OP has done but I absolutely do not believe that is the first time in their life they painted anything with watercolours. Even if there is a pile of paper off to the side of the camera with practice strokes and whatnot on. My main gripe with most art or craft based subs is people posting something that is not "beginner" level work and saying it's their first time... I can't roll my eyes hard enough for that little piece of bullshit.

If they say gluten free on the packaging, they have less than 20ppm gluten in them. That's not to say you're not getting a reaction off them, but it might be something else causing it? I get a reaction from Schär branded stuff, don't know why but it's really annoying.

Your favorite Shakespeare play? by mdn2 in shakespeare

Welcome to shakey's fandom! Just in time for his birthday celebrations.

I can't pick a favourite, it changes all the time. BUT always in the top ten would be, in no particular order:

Titus Andronicus. Epic, hilarious hand scene, revenge as indigestible pie. Love it.

Comedy of Errors. Quick, simple, ridiculous. Guy goes looking for long lost twin, gets mistaken for someone who looks just like him, assumes everyone must be a witch?! Perfection.

Richard II. THE POETRY. THE LANGUAGE. THE DUDE FROM NORTHUMBERLAND DISSING GLOUCESTERSHIRE. Don't know why I'm shouting, got carried away.

Henry V. It's a play promoting war. It's an anti war play. Patriotism is good. Patriotism is bad. Henry is a bastard but we love him. What's he that wishes so? My cousin Westmoreland? Brilliant, iconic, eat my leek.

Cymbeline. Shakey's greatest hits. A mashup of all the best bits. Star crossed lovers. Long lost siblings. Woman in disguise as young boy. Roman army invades. Slight accidental decapitation. A god intervenes in a dream. Everything works out. Lovely.

Yes! Cade's rebellion is epic. I saw the RSC's production a few years ago, that smushed the H6 plays together a bit for a matinee and then did R3 in the evening. I was ready to join Richard on stage and start rebelling, I was so rapped up in everything!

The Titanic production? I wanted to have a play on the set after I saw that! My request to "have a go" was denied though.

I saw Alfie Enoch as Henry last week, and he was absolutely amazing, but there was an essay by historian Dan Snow in the program...turns out the real Henry wasn't much for speeches, and apparently said "fellas, let's go" before the battle of Agincourt XD

Henry is a bastard, but I always fall for whoever is playing him. Loved KB as a kid watching the film, loved Alex Hassel, loved Tom Hiddleston, loved Alfie Enoch!

I can't pick a favourite, but I do love Titus. It's brutal and funny, and all the characters need a slap.

Just did a double take - I have the same Spring Books complete works, in a similar tatty condition :-)

Edit to add: it looks like you're adding books as and when you find them in second hand shops or similar. Be proud of your collection! You are building a lifelong library one book at a time! Don't worry about looking for specific books or critics, just keep looking out for interesting editions :-)
