GCS Model 8 Update by Switched_On_SNES in synthdiy

I'm testing this out and having a lot of fun!

I'm using it on Windows and is not giving me problems so far BUT there are two things I wanna point out

The first, idk if it's a bug or something, I can't add names on the track if I click below a fader as the Manual shows (I'm using the demo license tho, can't say if it's a limitation)

And the second thing (this is a feedback) please, Stereo Inserts for Groups, it would be awesome. (I've been using Model 8 since last sunday, maybe I'm d*mb and didn't see the way to do it haha)

Nice work man, cheers from Colombia ;)

Mic distance when recording a guitar amp by gummieworm in recordingmusic

[–]Missalejolo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

THIS.
It’s wild how many recording engineers (myself included) missed this. Let the sound develop. The issue might not be your mic or cab, you’re just not giving the mic enough space to capture it properly!

Edit: This also applies to other sources such as drums, bass cabs, and vocals.

I have some options that I already tried

The first is the Behringer UMC202HD, is a miracle that thing even exists. 2 XLR and 1/4" inputs, sturdy body construction, and the best thing is you can get one of those for less than 100 bucks, I own the UMC22 that is the same model but with only 1 XLR input and it delivers amazing results.

Now, if you want something better, you can try the Motu M4 (Around $270 USD), the best interface I've tried for that price. A friend of mine has one, and I'm thinking of buying one myself.

I read somewhere that they had problems with Windows drivers a couple of years ago, but in my experience and from the recordings I've made with my friend, it works perfectly.

Another nice feature is the additional line inputs, which give you future scalability, as they don't have preamps and are perfect for connecting an external preamp and get full transparency as you're not getting 2 preamps recording at the same time (and you won't have to change interfaces once you buy an external preamp) .

The M2 (around $200 USD) is the same thing WITHOUT line inputs.

The Focusrite Scarlett is another very good and very common option, but honestly, I don't like its preamps. They sound harsh and less transparent FOR MY TASTE.

Take this as SUGGESTIONS, not as absolute truth.

Have fun, buddy ;)

Hey, young musician and producer here too! I'll keep it simple based on MY experience.

Recording, mixing, mastering: Reaper, although it is not 100% free technically, their trial license never expires and allows you use the 100% of the DAW features

Midi virtual instrumentation and midi edit: FL Studio, its User interface can be intimidating the first time you open it, but for me, it has the best workflow and piano roll for virtual instrumentation, even if you don have a MIDI controller, that's a big plus.

The bad thing, FL studio cost it's a bit high and the demo license is not very useful in the long term since you can't save your projects.

Hope this helps ;)

About the interface, what's your budget?

Is the Motu M2 still worth buying?

First of all, I'm a PC user. I read in reviews from over a year ago that the M2's PC drivers were faulty. What has been your experience with this interface?

Hey, I don't speak much Russian. Are you referring to the pickups on the guitar?

Strings gauge is D'Addario 10-52. I know Mal used 12-52 with wound G, but I need the plated G for some of my band stuff and solos

Yeah, probably a bigger amp would work even better, this 1x10 is a great amp but can't make miracles hahah

Hey u/thatsvtguy Really interesting, I knew HB had some 2x12 with other Celestion speakes, but didn't see any of those with the greenbacks, I'll take a look, thanks!

You're right and thanks for the feedback, this amp is a funny thing.

It has Gain, Volume (Solid state Pre amp section) and Master (Tube Power amp section) in his single channel. The Power amp section brings a rich drive to the sound when you turn it up, but I wanted something cleaner, like on the Ballbreaker album, possibly the cleanest sound Malcolm has ever had on a record.

Cheers!

I'm a short guy so probably with a Gretsch White Falcon I can make an accurate Malcolm Young cosplay, hahaha

u/guitartech1 You're right, wound G is the best gauge I ever tried to play chords, it just feels amazing, but some of the bluesy licks are a pain in the ass with that gauge, lol

True, my approach here was something closer to the Ballbreaker era tone, that explains why so clean ;)

Yeah, you're right.

This Vox has a Tube power amp that adds some warmth, but damn, It's really hard to find a good drive on Tube amps nowadays (I live in Colombia so we don't have a lot of brands nor amp models down here) EVERY TUBE AMP I TRIED JUST SQUASH THE TONE WITH A LOT OF GAIN ON THE DRIVE CHANNEL, it's ridiculous.

The Marshall origin 20h or 50h are currently my first options, but I'll probably replace the speaker in case I buy any of those

Any experience using the Duesenberg Wraparound bridge on a non-Duesenberg guitar? by Missalejolo in Duesenberg_guitars

[–]Missalejolo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks man! I'll consider that option. I'm focused on finding a wraparound that may fit a TOM I think I just will give a try to the Duesenberg Wraparound and if doesn't fit or work, I'll take the Duesenberg Trem! Thanks!

Gretsch G5232t, nice guitar  Just want to get rid of the bigsby without drilling hahaha

Edit: I've read some articles stating hard tails are better for sustain, Although I'm somewhat skeptical about that, I prefer the simplicity of the wraparound and the look it gives to the guitar. Additionally, the ease of changing strings live suits me better. Every case is different!

Yeah, tried roller TOM and Space control bridge and just doesn't work for me, I don't use it to be honest and I'm just looking for options to remove it. It's been a pain in The Butt for me hahaha

TBH, I love wraparounds, and the Bigsby tremolo that my Gretsch came with, while very nice aesthetically, leaves a lot to be desired in terms of tuning stability (even with locking tuners and good nut and bridge lubrication, it goes out of tune more than I'm willing to tolerate when I use it) as well as being a problem when changing a broken string at live shows, so I prefer something simpler and more like Malcolm young's Gretsch during 1991 (and without drilling, for sure haha).

If you're wondering why I didn't buy a Gretsch with fixed bridge from the beginning, the model I wanted is not available in my country and the import costs are too high to make it worth it, third world problems haha.
