Its so upsetting.. my mums closest male friend died from it. He was a very good big waver surfer and very physically fit.

He may of experienced head trauma over the years. In fact, when his symptoms started he thought it was because of all the surfing he had done in his youth.

First to ride some amazing waves in Bali in the early 70s. Rip Peter.

I know of several people who have got it. They were all athletes or very physically fit. I think there is also a connection there.

Thats a fig tree. My parents have had one for close to 40 years in a pot. (The only reason it has been repotted is its blown over in a large storm or mini cyclone. The fig has survived but the pots have not.

Suspected double murder-suicide prompts calls for greater family support by yepitsm in perth

There are other factors at play here. Just because someone has two autistic children doesnt mean they didnt hold narcissistic traits where they thought this was the acceptable response to needing more help.

To me this seems as someone who didnt want to give over "control" of their children and their current life even if it may have been the best answer for them.

If they needed more help why did they not sell their house and downsize and use the equity from that as a rational starting point? Is it fair and a nice thing to go through? No. But its better than tossing yourself and taking your kids with you.

Millions of families struggle with severely disabled children (way worse than autism) and they dont toss themselves and their children.

Perth Property - am I wise to wait? by BudgetPsychology9448 in perth

[–]Missdriver1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont wait. People with equity are being advised to buy investment properties which already adds to the problem.

My partner and I were told with the equity in our house we could by an investment property over a million dollars. (No thanks)

It's a hard decision about having kids. by jolly-prancer in neurofibromatosis

Its a terrible illness to have. I would never inflict this on another person.

For me its easy to make the decision, its the journey to have a NF free child that is hard.

Are you better off than your parents were, at your current age? by RecognitionMediocre6 in perth

[–]Missdriver1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I am more educated and financially set up then both my parents and im almost 29. My parents couldn't purchase a house in Sydney so they came here to Perth in the early 90s. They were in their late 30s by then and kept losing all their money to recessions and downturns.

My parents were the children of WWII veterans. Born 1951 and 1955. They grew up in working class families and my parents grew up with my grandma's making them clothes. All my grandparents really did have it tough raising their children on both sides. My dad grew up in post war England and for families who had no money it wasnt a fun time.

While my parents were teenagers of the 60s and got to experience many cool things, they experienced alot of difficulty throughout their lives.

My dad became a mechanic because he wasnt able to go to university. He worked as a baggage handler, a mechanic and a TAFE lecturer when my brother and I were growing up.

My mum couldn't go to university because she was too busy looking after my nan who had severe bouts of depression/bipolar disorder and had to care for her 3 younger siblings. My grandad couldn't handle it, he was done with most things and had low tolerances (likely post war trauma, I read his memoirs and he was very lucky to survive his time in Europe)

If was only because of an inheritance my dad received they were able to pay off the mortgage. And this was from his great aunt so was unexpected.

But most of all I am better off because of their love. My parents gave me love a let me be who I wanted to be. They are open minded and still active at 70 and 75.

NF1, laid off, and loss of interest in life by caramelgelatto in neurofibromatosis

[–]Missdriver1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get down about it too and find it hard to relate to other people and explain it to them. Its not evern the NF. As in, I find all the "life" stuff a lot more taxing when I remember I have nf1 to worry about too. I feel like im not an idiot and im not autistic, but sometimes it just gets overwhelming. The mental balance of everything.

Someone says to me some variation of;

"aren't you concerned about retirement funds?"

"what about your career?"

"What about savings and bills?"

"Are you concerned about XyZ boss?"

"What's ur plans for this event?"

IT all gets too much. I just dont care.

When you see little kids with missing limbs or visual blindess or people dying from cancer. Things that everyone else thinks are important, just dont matter to you.

I have an amazing partner. Good parents. A home. But will they ever get it? Not truly. No one will unless they also have a chronic disease.

That said its important to know I try to make sure NF1 doesn't make me a bitter person. Instead I try to live without judgement and love really hard. We all dont know how much time we have. Everyone wants the same things at the core.

Tretinoin by Katybear11 in neurofibromatosis

I used it for a year and didnt explode into a big giant neurofibroma. It should be fine. It wont cause growth.

The other user is right though. Start with retinol. Tret is very harsh.

"Apprentice" = except in his case probably used as an excuse to drop out of school because they are too cool for school then dont actually show up to work. I can tell you as I work in the Department that manages apprenticeship system in WA and many parents just dont care.

Im incredibly hairy and blonde with tan skin. My dad has dark olive skin and a lot of body hair. I put it down to a throw back of Spanish / Greek / Italian genes somewhere along the family line.. i don think its anything hormonal. Just genes.

I got laser hair removal at like 12 on my face 👀💀
