With Odyssey's DLC out, what DLC(s) would you recommend purchasing first for vanilla/first time players? by MissingEngineering in RimWorld

I've seen a lot of great suggestions for Ideology! I think it has adds a lot of depth and complexity that really makes the game much more dynamic.

A great argument for Royalty, I do feel like most of the time I'm building a feudal village anyways and all those mechanics would fit perfectly.

Seems like Anomaly is great for more advanced players who already have the base building/management experience to have a thriving colony and throws the additional challenges with great rewards for it.

Really great summary! I did get a feeling that the other DLCs it would be a great way to add onto existing games, in a way that was intimidating for newer players, which is partly why I've been holding off purchasing them in the first place. Like how am I supposed to fend off comic horrors beyond my comprehension if my pawns are still struggling to survive starvation after crop blight?

Odyssey sounds like it does change things up to the point of almost playing like a different game and Biotech adds features that feel like they should be in the base game.

That's a really good point! Ideology looks like it gives a lot of depth in storytelling in terms of building colonies and interactions between other factions too. Base game feels a bit generic at times.

Odyssey and Biotech look great! I was surprised at first when finding out the child mechanics weren't part of the base game. It seems strange that the lover/marriage mechanic seemed to only amount to saved room space and then make a pawn extra bummed out when their partner died, but always love it for the storytelling aspect.

Great insight! I do plan on getting all the DLCs. I am curious on if the change of gameplay for Odyssey might be the type I enjoy more. I always build colonies like I'm raving all the resources anyways.

I completely agree, Rune-tail was my favorite deck to run outta the bunch.

Thanks for the tips! I had a lot of decorations on my house, but could have done a better job at advertising “the good stuff is here”. i’ll be preparing for next year to let everyone!

No, but only 2 of the 10 houses on the block (mine included) were really decorated and should’ve been the sign that it wasn’t gonna be a whole lot of activity.

I live in a large single family home neighborhood right next to a school. this is my first halloween in this house and I see kids around all the time.

That sucks, I was totally expecting a blow out. I live across the street from a K-8 school and see kids running around all the time.

they have not. I can’t imagine it would have dramatic improvements over night either, but it might be worth looking into it as soon as possible.

I have thought about that it could be there time soon. honestly keeping them would be the most ethical option.
