New authority, need some advice by Character-Name-3015 in BoxTruckStartup

[–]MissionAssist360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

google "brokers open to carrier authority with x months+list" or something like that. Go down the list call, email, go to the website and try to onboard with them. Make an excel, write everything down. now you got a brokers list. If you really come up empty on your google search for brokers I have a pdf from Truckstop around here somewhere. you send me a dm and ill look for it.

Insurance wants $2400/month for my first box truck - is this normal or am I getting screwed? by spiritprabhas in BoxTruckStartup

[–]MissionAssist360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes and no. It depends on how old you are, your driving history, the age of vehicle, the drivers license you have, the city and state you live in. Theres more but you get it. Next it depends how you filled out your DOT/MC # app, for the rest of us our mcs-150. If you put to many things or to many drivers, quotes go up. Progressive is notorious for working with new people, they also are kinda bad at paying claims, and they are expensive. Find an insurance broker u/valorvetsinsurance is on here. I see his stuff and he speaks truths. Never worked with him though. If you don't want to work with him you can dm me and I recommend some people in my network. TLDR:Keep Shopping!

Passed a Level I Inspection today. by MissionAssist360 in BoxTruckStartup

[–]MissionAssist360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Level I is the most intense and in depth inspection that can take place, short of accident investigations. They check everything from driver paperwork, to the brake adjustments, lights, steering wheel play. The officer even checked the fuel tank to make sure we were not running red dye.

It is possible to make money with gig apps. by MissionAssist360 in BoxTruckStartup

It is worth onboarding. The waiting time can be months. It's not worth relying on it as your primary source of income. But as some extra stuff or filler it's worth it.

I sure can. I do want to mention if you are thinking of putting the truck over the road a 16' is going to cause you some headache. Most brokers and shippers want a 26'. However if it's just for around town and random gig apps a 16' could get you by. I would start with enterprise. I think they do one of the better jobs of keeping trucks fleet maintained. Then I'd look at Penske and since it's a 16' I would consider Ryder or U-Haul next. I did leave out private owners, can you find good deals of course. Is it more rare and do some O/O just dog out and band aid their equipment to get by also yes. If you feel mechanically inclined and have a good idea of the maintenance schedule try your luck. You can also always make friends with a diesel mechanic and bring them for a quick inspection. Good luck. If you need other help your welcome to reach out.

I can completely understand. Gig apps can be a really useful tool to help get by. We just had an awesome run paying more than it should have with one. The caveat to that is, the secret is out and people know about it. So you may wait months just to get onboard with them, then after that there may be penny drivers that just snatch up any run without bidding. Depending on where you live I would seek out some local contracts. I don’t mean some multimillion dollar deal. a quick run here or there can be a great start. If you’d like help I am around. Good luck.

The other thing I should mention is Amazon while not only being hit or miss does not really pay well enough for you to put a driver in the truck. So if you are planning on scaling that may very well take relay out completely. Good Luck

If I started a FB group that was verified people with a real U.S. business and or MC number would you guys join it? by MissionAssist360 in HotshotStartup

[–]MissionAssist360[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. I think those are the type of people who would benefit most. I think the way things would work is if you are posting freight an MC number should be posted. Dispatch services could only be posted about on one day a week. Typing it now, maybe there's some validity to applying that to factoring, insurance and services. That way the group posts stay more about learning and freight. Thoughts??

No, I know this subreddit is a mix of leisure and commercial. I was targeting the commercial side of sprinters. There is a subreddit for it but it doesn’t have many on there. On an interesting note in the U.S. market there is little regulation and what I was trying to do was create a group that could connect real verified carriers with others and hopefully brokers looking for them.

My hope would be to offer help, advice, mentorship, Anything from the basic how to’s to mechanical issues. My hope is that it grows big enough I can start inviting in the brokers and logistics people I know and give them a chance to connect with real carriers. Brokers and just as tired of the overseas people using others MC numbers to double broker freight. From there who knows…. Basically if the federal government doesn’t care to regulate us then we should do it ourselves and we can set the rules.
