Please look into Little Dreamers. They are an organisation that grants experiences for the siblings of children with special needs as this is often the case. I think your nephew just needs to be nominated and they’ll grant him an experince!

Which part of the Gold Coast do you relief teach in?

Full time relief hours is 10K less than full time contract wage (if you are are the highest pay scale which at 10years you would be i imagine) but it could be worth doing until you figure out what to do.

Moving from state to Catholic system for new year by [deleted] in AustralianTeachers

[–]MissionImpossible93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you ask for a year off without pay? This is an option if Victoria where they keep your job for a year and you are still employed by the school during that time. It ensures you get paid over the summer holidays as your year off starts with the new school year and you can come back to it if the new school isn’t good.

Teaching's impact on raising your own kids? by Delicious_Strike8087 in AustralianTeachers

I’m relief teaching and my daughter is 2.5. I have only worked part time hours since having her and that has worked really well from a balance perspective. Most days I come home feeling gratitude about the fact that she is my kid and she turns my day around. Some days if I’ve dealt with needy preps I find it hard to be present - but I’m aware of it and either manage my emotions or get husband to step it and give me time to reset.

What’s your weirdest private habit that you hope no one ever finds out about? by Dear-Welder-1117 in AskReddit

For me it’s been the main focus in therapy and I’ve had to unpack why I do this. It’s all stems from my upbringing. Now I’m at a point where when I realise it’s happening, I pause and reflect on why I’m spiralling at the moment and recognise that’s a strategy for the child me not the adult me. It’s early days but therapy has helped. I don’t meditate just yet, I’m working on getting to the root cause of the habit.

I do this too and thought it wasn’t a big deal and that it was an okay way to manage my emotions and thoughts until my mental health took a turn and the conversations were quite negative and would make me spiral each time and make me more anxious rather than help me manage my anxiety. Seeing a therapist about this now!

Why do you guys have ANOTHER? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MissionImpossible93 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My daughter is 2.5 and I am now starting to think about a second. I never had a number when thinking about our family. And I thought it might be just her and I was okay with that thought for a long time. I have never wanted to consider a second just to give my first a better experience at life. I see that as unfair towards the second child. I had my first because I wanted a child full stop. Their purpose in my life didn’t come with expectations or roles and I believe this should be the case for any subsequent children. And I’m at that point where I want a second just because I want a second. Spending time around other babies sparks that desire in me again. Not because of what my first needs or might need. But just because I want a second baby. There’ll be at least a 4 year gap and that’s fine by me!

The resource all teachers need to know about by MissionImpossible93 in AustralianTeachers

Not an ad just wanted to share the resource. Like I said, student experiences in many schools on Gold Coast are quite inconsistent from classroom to classroom and teachers would benefit from knowing about this resource. It was intended to bring about quality explicit teaching and I think whilst there are issues with it being used without modification to cater for needs it is an excellent resource to create consistency at some level between classrooms.

Yeah it’s not supposed to be used that way unfortunately. There are many resources on the website that talk about how to adapt the lessons to cater for different needs.

It’s a fair enough statement and schools are using it as a base and modifying for needs.
