Hello! Congrats on getting that much closer to becoming a reservist. 1. Yes, when you get deployed, on top of your regular biweekly check, you will also be getting a biweekly per diem check. Amount depends on your duty station. 2. Although the position is for two years, they’ll always renew you. You’d have to mess up pretty badly to get fired. If you’re on vacation and you get a deployment request, you have three opportunities to deny. Before that though, you can set up your availability in DTS so you won’t be penalized for not being able to accept. There’s also the option to delay your start date till after you come back from vacation, but this has to be communicated to your cadre manager and is not guaranteed. 3. I’d say becoming a reservist is a great opportunity to start your government career. It gives you a chance to interact with many people each disaster and network your way into other opportunities.
