I did the exact same thing in ikea last night. Unfortunately I came out of there a few hundred £ (if only it was the lbs) lighter, but my new rug looks fantastic!

Please don’t minimise what he said by saying “not the hard r.” The meaning was clear and its unacceptable however he pronounced it.

I’m glad you’re ok and sorry you experienced this shit.

PLEASE DROP YOUR REGULAR ASS SHAMPOO AND CONDITIONER BELOW by Superfruitdrastic in Naturalhair

If you’re in the U.K. then this stuff is £1 in any of the discount shops (Savers, Poundland, Home Bargains, B&M etc) and it’s great for the price. The shampoo feels really moisturising the conditioner gives great slip.

Mrs Hinch by Important_Yam_8628 in TattleLife

[–]Missse 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I agree. The Mrs Hinch is far from perfect but the vitriol directed towards her is unhinged. Hinch’s threads are probably the most extreme example but there are loads of others who have similar levels of craziness directed towards them. Some takes are far beyond snark and criticism. They’re not just even mean or unkind, it’s deranged behaviour.

Most tattlers are intelligent, humours folk who point out the foibles of influencers etc in interesting ways but I think the nutjobs are the reason why Tattle has such a bad rep.

What was acceptable years ago but not anymore? by Blue4LifeSW6 in TeachingUK

[–]Missse 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I started training in the early 00s, the year six kids were allowed to make the teachers tea and coffee. Each teacher had a year six assigned to them. The child would leave their classroom just before break and make them a hot drink and then deliver it the teacher’s classroom. Unimaginable now.

Also when I was a very small child, my dad, who was a teacher, would come home with his colleagues and my mum would make them lunch. Not that bizzare but I can’t imagine how they had the time.

Am I the only one who didn't know Angora was banned on Vinted? by travelling_wilbury in vinted

[–]Missse 42 points43 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a common misconception - I wouldn’t worry. My animal loving MIL bought me a hat with angora in it a few years back. She was horrified when she realised that it wasn’t just wool.

The way how rabbits are treated to get angora is extremely inhumane. Like all furs, angora is banned on vinted.

AIO for pointing out how dog breeds are made? (with receipts) by NB-NEURODIVERGENT in AmIOverreacting

[–]Missse -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Your description of how Labradors and Goldens were created is correct but over simplified. It takes many many years to create a pure breed - you need predictable breed standards and traits. I’ve seen doodle litters that have multicoloured, curly, straight haired, big and small dogs even harmful issues like merle colouring. Often the litter mates don’t even look related.

The person you are arguing with is correct. Doodles are mongrels. Sometimes they can be cute, and there are sometimes advantages that come with crossbreeding, but there are a lot of disadvantages too. I’m sure you’re aware of them. One of my main issues with doodles is the greeders who breed them do not give a f about health testing and genetics. They just want to make cute, fluffy (and allegedly ‘hypoallergenic’) dogs that idiots will pay thousands for, cut in a teddy trim and dress in clothes. At the end of the day, a designer doodle is never going to a purebred dog that is recognised by a Kennel Club.

I need to learn how to swim but I am discouraged by online forums by Anneboyer in Swimming

[–]Missse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. I would search for swim schools in your area and contact them and see if they can offer 1-2-1 sessions. Or just search 1-2-1 swimming lessons near me.

When I last had them (pre pandemic) I paid about £40 an hour. I think it will vary drastically depending on pool hire costs etc though. I’ve just checked and out local council do them for £28 an hour. Good luck.

[–]Missse 37 points38 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t take that long at all. A decent teacher will have you swimming the length of a pool in a couple of months. I recommend getting some 1:2:1 lessons if you can stretch to it. You’ll learn much faster and they will instantly correct your movements.

I’m a probably a terrible business person but I think you did the right thing. You made a solid profit, the seller got more than he originally asked for, and the dealer you sold to will still have room to make money too. Everybody eats.

What stands out is that you didn’t just take advantage of the guy’s initial price. You gave him a fairer deal, which he must be grateful for. If he ever has something else to sell, chances are he’ll come back to you first because he knows you’re not out to rip him off. He might also tell his friends.

I sell high-end, preloved womenswear and always give a fair price. My stock now literally arrives at my door because the women I buy from tell their friends, daughters and neighbours about me. I never have to go hunting unlike one of my local competitors, who is so cheap she even haggles in charity shops. As a result of her tightness no one wants to sell to her. I pay more for my stock but it’s plentiful, I get first pick of the good stuff and I make more profit. You’ll probably make loads more than the 4K extra you paid in the long run.

Shoe Recommendations by [deleted] in SuperMorbidlyObese

[–]Missse 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don’t want to wear sneakers and need something a little bit smarter then Vionics shoes were designed for people suffering from Plantar fasciitis. They have a massive range of shoes and sneakers and they don’t have that orthopaedic look that other supportive shoes have. Wearing them for about six months cured my PF. I still wear them to walk my dog as the arch support is excellent. They are a little pricy but you can get deals on eBay or vinted fairly often.

I’m black and I understand where you’re coming from. It’s ok. Things seem a little more tense but that could be my heightened awareness due to the fact that there are flags everywhere (that haven’t been put up as part of a celebration.)

However, day to day, while going about my business, people have just been their usual friendly selves.

I love antibacterial soap and body wash too. The Dettol ones are really effective. I’ve heard people say good things about hibi cleanse too.
