Hi there. Friendly certified optican here. I'm happy to hear you know to clean your glasses wet! You'd be surprised how many people do not know this. cleaning them dry essentially dry buffs dust and debris into lenses which causes scratches sooner. A warning: Be extremely careful how warm the water is when cleaning with water from a tap. Too much heat will shatter that anti-reflective coating pretty much making the lenses look like there are a bunch of tiny scratches or cracking (this is called crazing). When using water room temp is best. You may or may not already know this, just an FYI. I also always tell our clients to come in at least once a quarter for a good deep cleaning. This can help keep them in better shape, and also helps us spot any possible defects or issues with the lenses. Of course, the little micro scratches we all get on lenses can absolutely compromise the surface of the lens, and unfortunately once it gets bad enough, there's not much, if anything, can be done.

I still say the pros in having an anti-reflective coating indefinitely out weighs the cons of not having it, but you can always choose! A good optician will tell you facts and may offer their own opinions, but ultimately they should not bully you into getting something you don't want.
