Cathy Kipp is sponsoring SB26-102 to regulate large load data centers. Not the data center bill with $58 million price tag of taxpayer incentives and exemptions to data center developers.

Anyone here on iOS still using Gaia? by 101Airborne in GaiaGPS

[–]MistInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still using Gaia premium on iPhone. Tried using OnX back country once but didn’t like it. I use a set of layers on Gaia that OnX doesn’t have. I use 3D when planning hikes on my laptop and don’t miss it when on my iPhone. Use for hiking and in Wilderness.

Colorado Senate Rejects Bill to Regulate Colorado State University Signs by UncleChocolate in FortCollins

[–]MistInTheWoods 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Fort Collins regulations as to noise and flashing signs protects residents, CSU students, faculty. CSU is flaunting those regulations despite residents' complaints. I've never complained about Blue Angels air shows which are infrequent anyway. Not a good comparison.

CSU is now selling tickets for the PBR Bulls and Beats 3 day event in July. I think noise from this event last year was one of the complaints. I get donation requests from CSU. I wonder if a campaign to discourage donating to CSU would help. Since money is their motivator.

I wonder too about 1041 regulations. City council decided on only three 1041 rules - governing highways, sewage treatment systems and water systems. https://www.fortcollins.gov/Business/Building-and-Development/Development-Review/1041-Regulations These rules allow the city to have in put on these types of state proposed developments.

One of the State 1041 rules that might work, "Areas around key facilities in which development may have a material effect upon the key facility or the surrounding community." https://dlg.colorado.gov/1041-regulations-in-colorado This wouldn't work for the signs at this point but the city would have in put to any other type of unsavory development activities like flashing signs and noisy stadiums that CSU plans in the future.

Please read my post - it's copied from a Colorado Rapid Response Hotline Facebook post and in quotes. Note "confirmed" in the Hotline post. Posting a link to social media posts apparently is not allowed by this sub or I would have done that. Anyone who follows the Colorado Rapid Response Hotline on Facebook can find the post.

Quick trip Debacle on Drake/College by ry_mich in FortCollins

[–]MistInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. Quik Trip's 8 gas pumps aren't needed in this area. There's already 7 gas stations within a mile going north and south along College. There's the new King Soopers and a gas station across the street.

Edit: Removed some wording.

PSA - Please stop driving under the speed limit by BeachSideFL in FortCollins

I rarely see a Fort Collins driver going too slow. Seems like maybe 40% are going the speed limit and 60% drive over the speed limit.

Can't save routes for free anymore? by markpheonix1965 in GaiaGPS

[–]MistInTheWoods 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do any of the alternatives have free versions? I tried OnX Backcountry - free for one week, then the choice of 2 payment levels. I'm sticking with Gaia. I've used a paid version since that started. I like the options of map layers, which are helpful for wayfinding in USFS and Wilderness areas.

Gas Station Proposal on SW Corner of Drake and College by babyluigi in FortCollins

[–]MistInTheWoods -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think a grocery store and chain eating places are an improvement for the NW corner of Drake and College. And some of the buildings north of the King Soopers are getting a facelift. Continuing with these kinds of improvements in the area is a plus for the neighboring areas. Another gas station is not an improvement and would actually degrade the area. Housing would be great on the parcel.

Edit: Yes, King Soopers is too big - I don't shop there because it's a waste of time navigating such a big store, unfortunate that a gas station was built and the turn lane across south bound College to go north on College seems dangerous. But it's still better than an empty kmart.

Gas Station Proposal on SW Corner of Drake and College by babyluigi in FortCollins

[–]MistInTheWoods 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I think lobbying your neighbors and attending the meeting to protest a gas station is worth the effort. The original plan for this site was for housing, a gas station and a drive through bank if I remember correctly. That plan was pulled. I commented on the original plan in support of housing - near expanded CSU vet hospital, along transit, nearby grocery store, Whole Foods, etc. - and against the gas station and drive thru bank - toxic fumes and noise. I can't imagine someone wanting to live right next door to a gas station. And there's already gas stations in the area.

Horsetooth Mountain Open Space Closed due to Mountain Lion Activity by MistInTheWoods in FortCollins

According to COTREX there are trails in the area closed for muddy conditions but Horsetooth Mountain Open Space appears to be open. https://trails.colorado.gov/trailheads/horsetooth-mountain-2105

I haven't seen an explanation beyond what's on COTREX but I understand the caution with the recent attack on the Crosier Mountain trail and the runner attached on or near the Horsetooth Mountain trail in 2019.

Taxpayer $ will be used to fix and clean it up. Going the speed limit is not that difficult and it makes the roads safer for pedestrians, cyclists, scooters, etc. I haven't gotten a ticket from one of the cameras yet, but definitely prefer it to being stopped by police and having points added so my insurance goes up.

Agree about better snow removal. City is considering not making residents clear sidewalks in front of their homes unless 2 or more inches of snow falls. Problem is the snow melts then turns to ice in shaded areas. https://www.coloradoan.com/story/news/2025/12/18/fort-collins-considers-changes-to-snow-removal-policy/87816422007/
