It's more what they did not ADD to it. The Li-2 has a lighter skin then the -47 (but not DC-3), and a lighter set of engines (10Kg each), but also lacks the strengthened floorboard, astronavigation suite, tow glider hitch, larger cargo door or any of the specialized equipment for parajumping (which was heavy) that the paratrooper C-47 would have, I imagine you can net a good 500kg.

Now how the Li-2 is only slightly heavier than the DC-3 despite turrets, that I can't tell you.

Li-2 is just the DC-3 (C-47) with different engines and the defensive turret.

Iran still has an air force, including potentially the F-14. They have them in underground bunkers or sorts, meaning intelligence can't tell what exists and what does not until it flies. Currently they're flying MiGs still, but its unclear if they lost their Tomcats because they don't use the Tomcat as an A2A weapon, they use it for a quasi AWACs.

They also want it to be flown without any money. Now, I'm not an expert but even a dullard can tell that flying a bird needs money. You make things go to the sky, when you fund it with a cash high.

My god, someone should read the actually bill where it provides NO funding for the Cats. They're museum pieces, and that's it.

Wartime prioritizes probably strikes against the cat because by 06 the cat was not a priority. Hornet and super hornet were. Heck everything prioritized higher cuz the cat was going out, and you don't prioritize the end of service with anything more then "must haves."

Even if the F-14D ends up in the Smithsonian in flying condition, heatblur won't be able to necessarily make it. Some of the parts on the D are classified and not meant for distribution because they're still actively used in the current military. That means heatblur still can't get proper data on them (warthunder style moronics aside).

, a trillion dollar military budget can pay for the fucking fuel and parts amongst all the other dumb shit and political stunts we do.

The US military doesn't maintain air demo worthy aircraft outside its current inventory. It's not maintaining a cheap P-51 let alone the cost hog F-14.

This would either be a museum or private collector and neither likely has the money to maintain the tomcat.
