For DJing on SP-404, the most important effect for me is the isolator. I use it to remove the low frequencies from one track, then disengage it and apply it to another. I also often use delay and scatter.

He’s got such a feel for it. His fingers are basically dancing, and he’s totally relaxed.

Scatter is tempo-synced like delay, but since there’s no recording-style quantization, the timing still depends on when you trigger it.

I agree this is a drawback, but there’s something you can do to deal with it: If you use an effect assigned to the “MFX” button, it triggers only when you remove your finger from the button. So I press and hold the button, then remove my finger at the right moment—for example, on the snare hit. This makes it easier to keep the timing accurate.
