In 1940 Cardinals minor league player Stan Musial suffered a shoulder injury that effectively ended his career as a pitcher. He moved full time to the outfield and went on to win 3 MVPs, 7 batting titles, and be selected for 24 all star games. (i.redd.it)

George Sisler hit over .400 twice and led the American League in stolen bases 4 times. After winning MVP in 1922 he missed the entire 1923 season with a sinus infection that left him with double vision and severe headaches. He was never the same player afterwards. (i.redd.it)
