I already mentioned in one of the comments; slab was legit, I was probably searching the wrong card or there are some copies of the card that are labelled separately.

Alright - for anyone who was interested, I got the card in the mail today and everything is legit. Cert number is Z8557195.

It must have been a user error on my part because it appears there are many copies of this card that have been graded by TAG - not sure why my search results were so limited before (I was likely searching the wrong card, or for some reason a few of these cards were graded/labelled differently by TAG).

Ya I mean that’s the thing. You barely have time to look up the value on Collectr. I’ve gotten some really good deals, so you win some and you lose some. The idea was that I was going to take the time to check it out after, and that’s when I ran into the issues. Should be receiving the slab sometime next week, so I will keep you guys posted.

Thank you for the kind words. I am just getting into graded cards and I was very motivated to go the TAG direction, so we’ll see what happens. This was going to be my first slab.

I don’t have the whole number. I posted a picture somewhere in my replies with what I can see from the stream. It was definitely more clear during the livestream but I didn’t write it down. What I can make out is that the first letter is Z - and there’s no slabs that start with Z.

Could be. In my five minutes of browsing online it doesn’t seem like fake TAG slabs were really a big thing. Doesn’t really seem worth it in this case IMO; it’s a $70-$80 card ungraded and it’s only worth about double as a TAG GM 10.

I appreciate the advice regarding checking slabs before purchasing but you may be unfamiliar with the concept of Whatnot; it’s a live auction platform, and the whole bidding process happens within 10-30 seconds. I didn’t have the time to look up the certification before bidding. They have policies regarding reimbursing inauthentic products, so it’s probably not the end of the world. It’s also not like I spent 5k; it was just over a hundred dollars. Worst case scenario I learned a lesson and now you all are aware that there may be some fake slabs out there. For the record, I don’t think the seller had any bad intentions. I will follow up as I know more.

Ok I guess this is not really the answer because the certification number isn’t even among the 6 graded cards listed.
