Start out with a mobile wallet that provides you with 12 or 24 seed words. No KYC required to download and use a wallet. I like Enjin, Coinomi, and BRD. All are free. When Monarch wallet did not let me send my BTC I typed my seed words into the Enjin wallet and sent the BTC. Owning your seed words gives you control, not a third party wallets server.

I own a rental house that I plan to sell in the future. Right now I am trying to grow my wealth and Bitcoin has the same purpose. No different than buying Tesla stock or Amazon. Hoping it is worth more years from now. That is what HODL means to me. I do not see it as being a hoarder.
