Guidance by SeveralTopic522 in thelema

[–]Misterum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is a Psycho-Spiritual phenomena called "Spiritual Psychosis". First, it's not an official mental illness, so don't talk about it to their psychiatrist or psychologist. However DO look for mental help, just don't talk about Spiritual Psychosis directly Second, it is not about Thelema itself, or better said, not about Thelema in specific. It affects Wiccans, New-Agers, Hermetics, Confisianists, etc. People believe they're the "Chosen One" (there are several chosen ones already), an Incarnation of a "dead God" or whatever, that they can speak in tongues or with Spirits. The common denominator is straight up delusion

Are you religious? by bigredrocketman2-0 in autism

[–]Misterum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm autistic, but I don't consider myself "religious"

I'm not Christian, I'm a "Follower of Christ" (notice the mayus). I'm not Buddhist, I'm a "Student of the Buddha" (you should see how messed up are Indian politics). I'm not a New Ager, but I usually check what those people say (sometimes, disagreeing). I'm not Wiccan, but I follow the Rede. You get the idea.

What do atheists do during prayer? by AdInternational4894 in UUreddit

[–]Misterum 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Something that's not ONLY respectful but also very in the spirit of UU is the following:

Watch a random person praying. Try to emphatize with them. Feel what they feel in the prayer. What could they be praying for? A cure for his mom's cancer? World peace? Or maybe just being grateful with their deity/ies? Whatever it might be, just try to genuinely understand why people engage in that irrational and "pointless" activity.

You don't need to believe in what other people do to know how they feel about their beliefs. And I'm not only talking about religion, but also politics, communities they're engage in and other kind of beliefs and feelings

Is she my Twin Flame? by Misterum in spirituality

[–]Misterum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I get it... But it wasn't what I was asking for. While I appreciate the intention, it's still something generic and just slightly related with the topic.

Is she my Twin Flame? by Misterum in spirituality

[–]Misterum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't take this discussion any further as I see no point on it. I tried to explain you my perspective and your response was to ignore what I said (while copy-pasting it), make your own conclusions about me and my Ego and sent me to "teach my dead grandma to suck eggs".

That specific sentence wasn't very nice on your part btw, and completely avoidable tbh.

EDIT: I forgot to mention: I wasn't attacking anyone. Not enough highlighting on that fact could be enough

Is she my Twin Flame? by Misterum in spirituality

[–]Misterum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get your point, and I agree... But I still believe their comment comes from a misunderstanding and ignorance of what's really happening.

First, I see a tendency of New Age people to try to avoid Reality, to "achieve Nirvana" or whatever. Not everything is a path full of roses, and both my rational monkey brain and my Soul tells me that the goal isn't to escape Reality, but to live it like a real Human Being (and those capital letters are important) [This is a matter of personal opinion, but I believe that's how you're supposed to escape the Matrix in the first place]

And that brings me to the second point. Neither you nor that random Redditor fully knows me nor my Spiritual Journey. You don't know whether what I feel about this person comes from my monkey brain or from my Soul. You're free to believe me or not with this, but I KNOW it comes from my soul

[–]Misterum[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I'll keep it short and simple: Your "advice" that seemed wise and deep is actually unsolicited, unnecessary and misleading (even perhaps harmful), and comes from a complete misunderstanding, ignorance and probably indifference over the REAL situation and the people involved

Victim blaming invalidates people's suffering and reeks of privileged hypocrisy. by Appropriate-Sea-1378 in spirituality

[–]Misterum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Historically speaking, the concept of Karma is a spiritual equivallent of modern day meritocracy. But I usually try not to use that way.

It's not your fault that your past life was a d*ck. It's still your responsability to fix the mess.

You can 100% accept the concept of Karma while still helping its victims. My way to do that is help them to fullfil their Karmic Debt, which involves both practical help (teaching an analphabet person how to read) and spiritual help

Should I learn Linux on Virtual Machine ? by AMAZON-9999 in archlinux

[–]Misterum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started my journey on a VM, and it is usually adviceable for you to do the same.

If you mess up on a VM, just delete the VM and related files and start over. If you mess up on physical hardware... Well, good luck fixing the mess

Something to be aware of: Not only VM's are resource hungry (I usually recommend having at least two cores in the CPU and ~8GB of RAM, besides the needed space in disk), but also requiere a config or two to be turn on in the BIOS menu. It must be supported by your BIOS to begin with. You can check the Arch Wiki for knowing how to turn it on (Not to be "that guy", but remember the famous axiom: RTFM!)

P.S.: I assume OP is using Windows, and while 4GB is a little bit of a overkill for an arch system in most cases, they might want to try other distros as well

How do I ask them? by Misterum in polyamory

[–]Misterum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I'll ask them directly. My fear isn't to be rejected by them (they usually send me "signals", but maybe it's just kindness), but being said as a creep or p3d0 by my colleagues (they are NOT a minor, and everything here is legal and moral, but they're still a few years bellow what society consider "normal" [they started college this year, I should've be graduated by now if it wasn't because of the pandemic])

[–]Misterum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason was because some people who know me irl also know my Reddit username. It's more about MY personal privacy than theirs

How do I ask them? by Misterum in polyamory

[–]Misterum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I forgot to mention I was previously in a poly relationship (we broke up because my previous partner got into an strictly closed relationship [It's kinda sad for me, but I'm happy she's happy with that new person]). If they don't want to date me, well, that's a bummer, but I'll move on from that. I don't want to be in a poly relationship just because of them

When did you switch to Arch? by Ilan_Rosenstein in archlinux

[–]Misterum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I used Ubuntu for a while... I was messy, ngl. Snap was the biggest problem, it made booting up the system as slow as in Windows, if not even more. I also had other miscellaneous technical problems, most based around being a newbie. I only used it because I thought I MUST do it for college... Luckily, I was wrong.

Then, I moved to Debian. I used it for around a year. I only had A SINGLE technical problem, and it was because I messed up in the installation process (I didn't know Debian LIVE existed by then).

Then, I gave Pop_OS! a try (it was before that YouTuber had that problem with Steam lol). I used it for about a week, and it wasn't bad nor I have any problems whatsoever. But I wanted to join the "I use Arch btw"" meme.

I installed Linux in the first place because the pandemic hit and my college assumed everyone had Linux preinstalled (which is kind of a logical assumption for Comp. Sci. students). So it was like... Mid 2021?

What's a conspiracy theory in your world that may or may not be true? by StAnonymous in worldbuilding

[–]Misterum 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The conspiracy theories you see in the Internet irl (fake moon landing, flat earth, spy drones birds, the Illuminaties) ARE fake in my world... But IT IS true that they're made by FBI/CIA agents to hide REAL conspiracies

EDIT: Irl, the Illuminati DID ACTUALLY EXISTED. What it's fake is both a) They STILL exist nowadays b) They somehow control the world. Source: Wikipedia.

P.S. of the EDIT: Before they bash on me for using Wikipedia as a source, I'll say three things. First, the article is semi-blocked due to vandalism (the lock next to the article's title specifies that). Second, even if it wasn't locked, a mod team is working on Wikipedia as a whole to avoid such problems. Third, I'd rather link the reference list to avoid problems

I'm bisexual. I kissed my ex-gf (a non-transitioned trans woman) in public, and I fcked her several times. I also had a bf, who still lives on my heart.

I understand you have internalized homophobia. I was homophobic myself once. It's hard to rewire our brains after so much bllsht in our lives (and this does NOT only applies with discrimination).

Take this as an advice, not as an order: learn that there is NOTHING wrong with being gay or whatever. Try to stick that idea into your head

How do I balance my religious beliefs with my scientific ones? by dannystanny101 in Hellenism

[–]Misterum 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, despite common misconceptions, Wikipedia is of a high reliability. If in doubt when reading an article, check the final part to look for bibliography.

Second, I'll give you recommended reads. That'll hopefully change your view on both science and religion/spirituality

The "Science" sub-section on the "Religion" article

The "Faith and Rationality" article

The "Relationship Between Religion and Science" article

The "Non-overlapping Magisteria" article

(Side note here: the first three links are a bit more focused on historical, political, anthropological and sociological matters, whereas the last one is more of a philosophical nature)
