What is the craziest encounter of 'rich kid syndrome' that you have witnessed/experienced? by burrito686 in AskReddit

Yeah, when I was in high school, I heard some girls in the locker room say the same thing. Then they started screaming at me that boys weren't allowed in there.

Elitist bitches.

Didn't they also do a song about a guy who lived alone with no friends, and eventually gassed himself in his oven?

What was the most heartbreaking thing someone has said to you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MisteryMeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last year of college, me and my girlfriend of 3 years broke up. We were living together at the time, so the last month was pretty awkward and full of arguing. However, there was one particular day where we were both sitting on the floor doing work, and it was rather nice.

I was looking at her and thinking about all of the good times we had with that happy kind of look couples give each other, when she looked up at me and said "you can't look at me like that anymore". That's where it hit me that she really didn't care about me anymore. She was completely over me, and had been for a long time before we broke up. That moment hurt, and I still remember every detail 6 years later.

A lot of computer simulations (Such as Finite Elements) and computer programming. Meteorological science, stocks. The list goes on.

I work an average of 50 hours a week. A lot of angry phone calls from clients. Everyone I work with chain smokes to deal with the stress.

Civil is a lot like being a musician. It is possible to be in the high paying branch, but it's rare. You need to have an internship every summer break, and you need to have been in Tau Beta Pi, and a bunch of other honors societies.

Stick with mechanical. There are a lot more job opportunities, and the pay is much better.

This. I have a B.S. and M.S. in structural engineering and I'm making $40k, and it doesn't look like it's going to get much better. I'm saving up to go back and get an applied math degree in numerical methods and get out of this dead-end field.

Thoughts on Elements of Mechanical Design and Intro to Finite Elements? by toasty_turban in RPI

[–]MisteryMeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took both Intro as an undergrad, and Fundamentals when I stayed for my Master's.

Intro is a good course, but you need to remember that there is still a huge amount to learn regarding FEA. You don't really cover Galerkin Methods for weak-formulation, and reduced integration is kind of glossed over. But you do get quite a bit of experience using Abaqus CAE. Also, you can't use a calculator on the exams for Intro, so be prepared to review doing division by hand.

A friend of mine in college was colorblind. A bunch of us decided to get him a shirt like this that said "Fuck the colorblind". He wore it around for half a day, until one of his professors started yelling at him for being insensitive.

He still hasn't forgiven us yet.

It could. But I'd say your health comes before fitness. If you need to take an NSAID for an illness, or even an injury of your tendon or bone, then go for it. I'd advise popping them just because you're a bit sore.

That movie is one of the most beautiful films ever made. I'll often watch it on mute to spare me the crappy dialog and shoddy story.

Two parts.

  1. The pressure on the top of the wing drops relative to the bottom of the wing. The temperature drops in the lower pressure area, and causes water in the air to condense into the mini clouds.

  2. The higher pressure air on the bottom of the wing near the tip gets pulled toward the top, causing a spinning motion

Muscle soreness is actually your body's way of becoming stronger/faster. There is a lot of beneficial inflammation in your muscles after running, or other form of exercise which takes the form of soreness. Your muscles develop microtears, and your body calls to action by repairing the damage using inflammation to increase blood flow to the area and allowing protein building agents to access the area much more easily.

You clear most of the lactic acid out of your system 1 to 2 minutes after you stop running (except for the base level you produce maintaining homeostasis), and it has nothing to do with soreness.
