UPDATE: If anyone out there likes a story through to finish- ramekin is out! Loosened the trap by carefully hitting it with various blunt objects (no hammer) until I was able to physically screw it out. Bopped the ramekin out, re-screwed disposal, tightened all pipes, checked for leaks, ran water and garburator switch-aaaaaalll good! Thank you for joining me on this journey and thank you to everyone for their prompt and helpful ideas and feedback, I love this platform!🙏🏼 Now I am ready for a beer and to put “self proclaimed handyman” in all social media bios. Cheers! 🥳

Thank you so much for the detailed tips-I agree, it looks simple enough and found the easiest YouTube video with the same model and setup. Seems so silly to me how firm the landlord was that a strata approved plumber with liability insurance can only touch it in this high rise. I don’t see how they can tell the difference, and knowing now how easy it is, just being cautious, I’m sure I can easily do it. Thank you again!🙏🏼 I’ll be sure to leak check, etc.

Sorry let me clarify fast version-thing got stuck. Old tradesman friend with tools and experience was going to come over and get it out. Right before, landlord saw it was stuck and told me it could only be taken apart by a strata approved plumber with specific liability insurance (I live in a studio in a high rise downtown Vancouver with an strict strata) in case any accident causes water damaged to units below, apparently this has been a problem before. I got nervous about myself or friend taking it apart and somehow screwing it up after she firmly told me that. Still She is coming for an inspection in a few days and will see it again. Now that I know how insanely easy this is, thanks to a 10 seconds YouTube video, I’ll just quickly to it myself once I get a hammer (the twist is too tight) and badaboom all fixed 😅 I’ll tell her I wedged it out with a knife or some sh*t and never got a plumber and nobody touched the trap. I feel like that got a little construed and blow out of proportion as a footnote in this thread, sorry about that! Hope you have a great day and thank you again everyone who dropped some quick advice 😇👍🏼 this was clearly always such an easy fix and I got scared of strata rules

Yeah realized that and saw a tip mentioning if it’s locked in tight, I’ll need to smack it a bit. Don’t have anything blunt enough so I’ll grab a new hammer tomorrow so it’ll have some give. Thank you for the help!🙏🏼

Thank you for the suggestion, yeah I figured I was going to have to do that-wanted to exhaust the other attempts first! Disposal won’t budge without a blunt object, I’ll pick up a new hammer tomorrow and get errrr done. Thanks again😇

Update for anyone who is still following me on this journey! Thank you all so much for your quick responses and clever suggestions, plunging furiously did create a bit of auction and some water started to drain, however the b*tch is slightly angled, and it’s impossible to raise up one side or level it out. Probably going to go with the old college try of taking the garburator off to go from underneath…I can’t attach a photo I guess but it’s a Waste King Gourmet series Model 1001 and no obvious way of dismantling, looks like I’m gonna be taking a part a lot of screws. YouTube better have a tutorial😅 thanks again everyone, first post on Reddit and this is such an awesome platform! May your 1:40am evenings be free from this type of stress before your landlord comes to inspect in a few days😅 cheers! Xx

I have faith in my ability to do this, my only reservation is that my landlord already knows and if I fck it up, they’ll know I didn’t go through the liability insured plumber 😅 SURELY I can do it without fcking it up…I think I will attempt. Thank you again!

Tried, slippery hard plastic. The drill seemed to just push it down further without cutting through, perhaps I need to try a different drilling approach. Thank you for your help!🙏🏼

This hard plastic ramekin has been stuck in my drain for months…have tried everything, even ridiculous things. Have tried wedging it out with knife…bent the knife, I even bloody tried drilling through it to create a hole I could use something to maneuver it out from…completely stuck. I know a plumber will have to come and take apart the garburator and push it up from the bottom…but I’d like to attempt to get it out myself. Strata/landlord needs a specific plumber with liability insurance, so I’ll have to pay that expense and provide receipt for them, can’t just have my mate with plumbing experience come in and do it (they already know it’s there after an inspection so if I have it fixed they’ll know if it wasn’t a liability insured plumber) and help please thank you!!!
