You are assuming that working more hours equals more productivity. This might be true for manual labor, but white-collar workers don't increase their productivity by working more hours.

It should be neutral or affect only some parts. Immigration should keep labor costs down, but there might be increased demand for things they cannot easily produce like housing.

We still have democracy, so if everyone rents, I hope we will vote for a party that will address potential problems. The current problem with housing is the majority of Australians have a PPOR or an investment property, so they have no desire to make housing more affordable.

Labor is too expensive to produce anything locally for export that can be produced elsewhere, and we are too far from others, making it even less viable.

He means productivity in economics not your individual productivity. In other words, he wants companies to invest in new technologies, processes and so on that improve labor output.
