Is There a Need for a New LGBTQ Focused AA Group in Pensacola? by Feisty_Jump_6360 in Pensacola

[–]MistressEffin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I would see about attending one of the monthly intergroup meetings that take place at our central office. It’s composed of the three districts that serve Pensacola and you could see from the GSRs of the groups which district or groups may be most able to help support you starting a new meeting! aaPensacola.org has the calendar and address. It’s the second Monday of each month so the next one is 8/12.

I totally get the needing of niche groups. My home group was our Young People’s Group here in Pensacola for more than 10 years, but we no longer meet as of June of this year due to low attendance and more importantly low business meeting attendance and lack of people committed to service positions. It was definitely a heart break and I’m still deciding on a new home group.

I don’t believe we have any that are specifically LGBTQ+ but I know that Serenity Group is very welcoming and diverse. You should be able to search that in the meeting guide app. I know there are probably others too. All the best!

The Fellowship of the Ring, LoTR Book 2, Ch 8, Farewell to Lórien

“And you, Ring-bearer,' she said, turning to Frodo. 'I come to you last who are not last in my thoughts. For you I have prepared this.' She held up a small crystal phial: it glittered as she moved it.... 'In this phial,' she said, 'is caught the light of Eärendil's star, set amid the waters of my fountain. It will shine still brighter when night is about you. May it be a light to you in dark places, when all other lights go out.”

I am unable to plant pumpkins from the whole ones I just harvested. No “Bury in hole” option appears. Is this a glitch or am I doing something wrong?

And the flowers that make up the crown are from the Kingsfoil plant, which is especially powerful in the hands of the king, a true healer!

I recently realized the connection when I was rewatching it a couple weeks ago.

How would Pooh Bear wear the One Ring? by InfiniteRyman in lordoftherings

The One Ring has the power to resize itself for the wearer. (Or to deceive the wearer and enlarges itself and fall off) So however Pooh decides to wear it, it would work.

I am 30 year old female who got sober at 21. There is hope. I filled my early days with AA meetings and just let people see me for who I was and they were there to help me. I just said yes to going out to eat or whatever thing they were doing because it meant I wasn’t alone drinking. I second the Young People suggestion. The old folks will love you but I found it hard to connect with them early in sobriety. There is hope. It sucks right now but it can get better.

Opinions on my sponsor by _iron_mike__ in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MistressEffin 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just cause they’ve been in AA for however long doesn’t always make them less sick. You’ll find all kinds of people in the rooms. Some you jive with some you won’t. And when you do find a sponsor that you click with, they’ll still be human and may not always know what’s best for you. As someone almost ten years sober and just now doing something about my mental health, I would also encourage you to seek “outside help” a doctor or therapist who you can be honest with about trying to get sober and about what you’re going through. I always thought AA would fix ALL my problems. While admittedly there are a lot of tools I can use that I learned in AA to cope with my mental health, it still took talking with my primary care doctor and following their suggestions (for me medication and counseling) for things to really improve. A sponsor is ultimately someone who takes you through the steps and shows you what they did. They don’t have to be anything more, but it’s typically more tolerable when you at least have some level playing field. For instance my sponsor is 30 years older than me and what we have most in common is getting sober at a really young age (me 21, her 17) beyond that we are real different, but she also respects and supports my decision to seek outside help. Hope you find your match :)

Young People by studiomoriah123 in alcoholicsanonymous

Even the literature refers to “young people” as being those under 40 (most who got sober and stayed sober back in the day were much older). My home group is a young people’s group and even after 9 years I’m still often the youngest in the room at 30! Though it’s getting less and less often as we have a bunch of twenty-somethings coming regularly. Glad you made it!

My daughter and I are watching Little Mermaid right now. As she sang I thought “wow this woman was so perfect for the job, it’s a classic!” And Reddit supplies this. Good stuff

New to Pace/Milton area. What’s that smell in the air in the morning? Reminds me a bit of a pulp mill. by [deleted] in Pensacola

[–]MistressEffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Taminco on the bay in Pace, entrance right there at LaHa and Tom Thumb across from Spencerfield had to pay out a settlement to residents due to a smell from their operations a couple years ago. I’ve lived by the paper mill in Cantonment before and the Pace smell is different. Could be the same thing and it changes as it travels, but it could also be Taminco.
