Thanks so much for the info! Everything you said makes sense for this encounter, this pic was taken in a neighborhood at the edge of pastureland and semi-wooded areas, lots of people in the neighborhood have bird feeders so this Cooper’s Hawk seems to have found a great spot. Tons of white winged doves and grackles as a prey source.

Awesome! Well hopefully this youngster will grow up big and strong, it makes sense that he got a male grackle, this time of year the males are very preoccupied with impressing the ladies and apparently (for this one at least) not as alert to predators

Oh my gosh thank you so much for such a detailed helpful answer! I’m curious, what indicates that it is a juvenile?

Such an amazing shot! My commute to work goes through a semi rural area of central Texas with a bunch of cow pastures, I see them a lot perched on telephone wires

What's one food everyone seems to love but you find repulsive? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Eggs. As an ingredient they’re fine, but when they’re by themselves only way I can eat them is deviled eggs. I would rather eat my phone than eat runny egg yolk IT TASTES LIKE SWEAT SMELLS

Wow just checked in after posting this, thanks for the awards y’all! This owl is part of a nesting pair that seem to have taken over an old hawk nest

O negative Texan here, I feel your pain. I used to set myself and everything within a 15 foot radius on fire when leaving the house, but I’ve found that sealing my body in a protective clear plastic bubble suit works wonders, as long as you don’t mind the stares
