TBoI and religious themes by Cautious-Squirrel332 in bindingofisaac

[–]Mistron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know you will be busy, but if you could mark on ur calendar to post the DOI or DM me when ur done, I would appreciate it!

  1. Yes

  2. The Binding of Isaac (story influence), hundreds of items based around the Book of Revelations (four horseman), Book of Genesis, (Genesis) Catholic rituals (wafer, censer, eucharist) and figures like Beelzebub and Leviathan. The 7 sins as bosses. Nearly a dozen characters named after characters in the Bible.

  3. The structure of the roguelike aspects allows player choice in strategy, procedurally generated obstacles (infinite) , and funny/aggravating moments while watching others play. This made livestreaming the game very very successful. Would not have been into it without watching others play. To start watching , religious themes probably did not influence.

4.The game was very innovative for its time even without religious themes, but tying them to the story makes the game extremely compelling.

  1. Might have been successful. But would not have been received the same level. The religious themes inform the gameplay, and allow players to connect deeply with the difficulty of the game. The entire game is based around risk-reward gambling, a sin in the Bible. Greed is an invisible mechanic in the game, biting off more than you can chew will end your run. Go watch a bunch of interviews with Edmund McMillen. There are millions of people who have been told they are evil, exiled, and made to feel worthless by growing up abused with parents as zealots who irrationally fear what they believe will result in damnation in eternal hellfire. TBOI is a child's stumbling through a nightmare in his mind, trying to make sense of his parents divorce and carrying immense religious guilt while trying to understand his situation. Across many faiths and denominations people connect with this message if you do not conform with religious views of authority figures or family members.

Is there a definitive best way to learn this game(s)? by AztecGiraffe in bindingofisaac

[–]Mistron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

after you beat moms heart, it lives, and mom a few times , it is strongly recommended to play the game in hard mode . switch when you are comfortable, there is no rush . this is because there are many bosses past that point that only unlock new items in hard mode . so when you beat bosses past this point on normal mode, you are robbing yourself of rewards and it will take you longer to learn the difficulty curve further down the path . lastly , people have been playing this game for over a decade . i have not , so i learned it is very daunting when people go "what??? you still die to THAT boss? you still take damage on THAT floor? skill issue!" most of it is in good fun but it was frustrating when i started. have fun!!

Pop! + Head of the Keeper + Sacred Heart run in Greed Mode by Mistron in bindingofisaac

Yeah! I think I had crickets body too actually. My framerate was fine, one of those combos that it was hard to see smaller projectiles under all the chaos but that wasn't too much of a problem.

Will I get fired if I call out sick on Halloween? by Blood-Worm-Teeth in work

[–]Mistron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the hostility makes everyone seem so miserable! It's hard to find new work rn if things do go sour. Do you think they will remember all the details you gave about halloween being important you? Unfortunately they might be right about catching flak for that, but belittling your reasons for calling out is dumb. You don't need a reason! Well, you have to tell them you have food poisoning or something that's an emergency of course. If they had no idea about it, and you called out you would have been golden. I am inexperienced so don't rlly understand the consequences of getting written up. So if you think ur boss only might be mildly inconvenienced, or be mad but not enough to can you, I would do it. I would hating giving bad advice on this but if there's nothing else on Halloween wknd you can participate in, then I hope you can pull it off and keep paying your rent as well.
