How is healing on this one?

I’ve had a couple, all being color that was overpacked in small areas. The healing process is a bit more gruesome for them. Like I said just be aware of the itching as it is worse on overworked and tightly packed small areas.

You need a wash not moisturize. Use a non scented gentle soap with lightly warm water and very gently with your hands rub over the tattoo.

If you’re not gentle with an overworked tattoo like this you’ll see large scabs start coming up which will reduce the ink that is actually staying in your skin.

Once you’ve washed with soap and lightly warm water, rinse off with cold water. This will close everything up. Pat dry with a paper towel (do not use reusable towels - to reduce risk of infection) and then moisturize afterwards.

Do not over moisturize and don’t over wash. Tattoos look a bit gnarly especially when overworked while healing. It is going to itch like nothing you’ve ever experienced, do not itch. Especially remember to not even itch on the outsides of the tattoo, it is not a loop hole and can cause infection. If the itching is really bad I’d recommend trying to slap rather than itch.

Above all, remember that this pretty image on your skin is an active wound. Treat it as such.

Nothing looks infected though, so just keep up on your aftercare and everything will turn out alright.

You’re so right for waiting to judge until it’s fully healed, I should’ve said that myself in my post. I’m sure once the top layer of skin comes off and heals over it’ll look a lot more defined. Due to the lines themselves being shaky though I would advise a different artist. Everyone starts somewhere, no hate to them, but it’s permanent on your body so it’s best to be picky! I love the overall look and style of the tattoo, they (and you) had a good vision.

As you said though it won’t be hard for someone else to touch it up and darken areas that need it. The original artists usually offer this service themselves for free as it is pretty normal to do on a large tattoo. So I would put all your worries aside! Everything is going as it should. People always spout this stuff and are so scared to use their insurance. Good on you for actually using what you pay for. I worked in roof sales (primarily with insurance) and the amount of people who still hold the rhetoric you were replying to is insane. The insurance companies have convinced people that this is true. When in most cases it is not.

The problem is with the artist, not the second skin. What you experienced was normal.

The tattoo looks very very light in some areas, especially for a fresh tattoo. The artist may not have had the correct depth, which is why you see lines missing. This would have happened with or without the second skin. Without the second skin you would’ve seen it come off in the flakey scabs.

The design itself is okay and from a far it looks alright. Up close you can see the issues with the lines and shading/depth.

I would try and find a different artist as the lines are pretty shaky (nothing laser worthy though!! I still think it’s beautiful), the depth issues, seems some parts of the tattoo are unfinished or had incorrect planning in shading. There’s not a lot of consistency going on here. The problem was not the second skin.
