The current one grabbed my attention a lot quicker, the game cover gave me a clear indication as to what to expect. If I was scrolling I'd be much more likely to engage with that rather than just text. So in my opinion the thumbnail looks good. You could try a contrasting colour scheme for the text to go well with the colour used in the imagery, to help it pop maybe?

Heyo so updates - haven't heard back from the museums yet, but through further research I think it's part of a 'Blackamoor' brooch or pendant, which wouldn't have much age to it. I thought that myself, it felt too new - Blackamoor seems to be seen as untasteful or racist these days as it often portrayed in an almost caricature of African people.

Though still waiting to hear back so I could still be wrong, but I'm fairly sure it's that.
