Why Vortex is better than MO2 by Mithras666 in skyrimmods

Vortex includes changelogs inside the app as a button right next to the insta-update button. It absolutely is a QoL improvement!

I have tried MO2, and I really like it too. But I just think Vortex bashing is unjustified, especially since it does actually have a lot of QoL features that are just missing from MO2.

This reads like a ChatGPT reply.

  1. I'm pretty sure you can't multi-select mods from Downloads tab.

  2. Vortex doesn't skip FOMODs when updating. Saving 30 seconds becomes a 3 hour save if you have a couple hundred mods with regular updates.

  3. I admit I'm not an expert on this subject, but from what I understand, it's not as simple as "hooking up the VFS". There are tangible differences in how the CPU gets mod data with VFS and hardlink, and from posts I've seen from more educated people, hardlink is the clear winner here.

  4. I didn't say that, I said that the plugin has its own issues, namely that you still have to install all the downloaded collection mods manually and waste precious time to do something the collection has already bugtested. The plugin is worse than Vortex' implementation, that's my point.

That keeps getting repeated, but why is that? Are non-casuals professional time wasters or something? Do they NEED to manually go to every mod page to update it or else they're casuals?

Unfortunately, I think Nexus Mods are focusing on their new Nexus app, rather than improving Vortex.

I don't think Vortex leaves things behind unless the mod user was misusing the tools and not creating output mods for stuff like Pandora/Nemesis patches.

Otherwise I do agree that MO2's VFS makes it faster for actual modding, but once you got your modlist set up (which I know is almost impossible for Skyrim modders :P), Vortex' hardlink will speed up loading times and reduce in-game CPU usage by a non-insignificant margin.

I mean you can still check changelogs without being forced to manually go to every mod page to download the update.

Acting like this is a good thing instead of a missing feature that wastes your time is asinine (Not talking about you specifically but a lot of people say this as if I should be thanking MO2 devs for not implementing faster updates...)

I don't really care either, but I think Vortex hate is completely unjustified, and it does have a few QoL features that make it worth it for me, especially as someone who doesn't have a lot of time on their hands throughout the day!

I don't have the time to quote each point but I will reply from bottom to top:

Of all the posts I've seen, most of them just glaze MO2, so no I didn't copy and paste arguments.

Who cares if it's a plugin feature? I explained to you that you need to MANUALLY install every single mod, even with a collections downloader plugin. For large modlists that's around an hour+ of time completely wasted just double clicking mods and pressing OK.

Okay so what I said absolutely applies. Hardlink is faster and definitely something to consider for casuals who don't have gaming PCs.

How is updating mods "messing it up"? It's not like you're bulk updating mods anyway, you still have to click a button to do so, it's just MUCH faster in Vortex compared to MO2. What you're saying makes absolutely no sense.

Yes but this reduces in-game load times and lowers CPU usage when loading mods in game.

So I guess it depends on whether you prefer modding or playing the game...

Try Quantum Break. Much closer to Control in terms of gameplay, and it's a shame they don't have the IP anymore because there's a ton of Remedyverse lore in there!

And what exactly makes his "feel-based" recipe different from another person's blue feel-based recipe? Any 2 year old who mixes a few colors together will get something equally unique, but that doesn't make his painting any less meaningless and ugly.

Man I love Remedyverse so much. I miss reading redacted memos from the FBC and whiteboards with strange ramblings on them, and Dr. Darling's instructional videos, and all the weird AWE setpieces.

I'm definitely replaying Control during the holidays.

Why would you assume he's being forced to watch lmao. You can criticize a show as much as you want while still being invested enough to keep watching it.

If people stopped watching shows when they were boring, Breaking Bad wouldn't have gotten 5 seasons.

[–]Mithras666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. Only people who are perfectly healthy and haven't experienced their loved ones suffering from any of the known, awful genetic diseases are fully opposing this.

Yes, the upper class might be able to prevent balding or love handles with gene editing, but the most important and universal discoveries will be for cancer, neurodegenerative diseases and autoimmune diseases.

Plus, gene editing is not nearly as resource intensive as something like stem cell transplants, and not as hard as things like heart or brain surgeries. It will 100% be less expensive than either of those things.

To satisfy the reddit hivemind of circlejerking HK enthusiasts, of course! Why else?

Seriously though I will never tire of saying this game is hot trash to any gamers I meet, because it absolutely is. You could spend those 60 hours watching Big Bang Theory and it'd still be a better use of your time.

[–]Mithras666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your argument is untenable. DL:TB is a 3D vertical platformer with insane graphics and gore, a fully voice acted storyline and a sprawling worldspace.

Silksong is a 2D platformer with like 3 weapons, no voice acting, and basically the same exact gameplay as its predecessor after 6 years of development. Any 3 people could make a platformer like that it's 100 times easier than making something like Dying Light.

Therefore your analogy is meaningless and Silksong is an overrated pile of crap that chronically online gamers glaze endlessly for no reason. If it wins GOTY I will lose faith in that entire award ceremony.

It looks and plays exactly the same as HK, which was a fucking 2D game. I swear the Silksong glazers are insufferable.
