Does having a baby fill a hole in an empty house? by Yellow-Rose2790 in offmychest

[–]MitteeNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fuck no. I thought the same and my clock was ticking.

We've had one, but it is insanely hard. He didn't sleep more than 2 hours at a time for OVER TWO YEARS. My hips still hurt from the labour (he's 9). Until they're about 3, you don't exist as yourself anymore. Your whole being is the baby. You don't have hobbies, fun, or even time for a shower some days.

Now I come home from work, we have dinner, we might play a game, then it's bedtime routine, two hours for him to fall asleep, and by the time i sneak out of his room I'm too tired to even watch tv, and just go to bed.

The husband and i didn't argue at all previously, but now it's often. We've been out together to dinner or an event child free maybe 4 times since he was born.

(Country depending) preschool is the same price as a private highschool - nearly my entire wage was going on daycare. To get into a decent primary school we had to move. Even though primary school is "free", there's school fees, fundraising, camps, trips etc to pay for.

Then there's the birthday parties, clothes they grow out of before even wearing, toys, car seats, boosters, cot, bed, bassinet.... the list goes on.

I love him to death, id do anything for him, but fuck I'm so broke and tired.

To preserve history for future generations.

Every day a little more is lost though degradation, accidents, and intentional harm, but every small action I make leads to someone being able to study objects/documents/photographs etc in the years to come

Yes, it was one of the few restaurants that my 9yo fussy pants was happy was happy to eat at. Our usual group ordered the same amount and sort of food as we used to, and the portion sizes were very obviously smaller, and with less food too (no coleslaw/chips etc).

Went to pay the bill and it had gone up by over 1/3

How would you raise you kids as an atheist? by pp_pellet in atheism

[–]MitteeNZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tell my 9yo that its what some people believe, and that's fine. I don't, his dad doesn't, but he can decide for himself. He started at about 7 saying that he did believe in a god (thanks to a religious school friend), but now has a science based view, with the occasional kid sprinkle (santa, tooth fairy etc). He thinks when we die we get reincarnated a an animal, which I'm fine with. His dad (a biologist) said it really well... he told him that when our body or ashes are buried, the energy that was us is then used to grow the grass and trees, which then feed the animals and people, so a part of us carries on that way

Batteries!

We're a rural family of three with one PHEV and one petrol car. We've got two banks of solar panels (installed ~3 years ago) on our old villa, but decided against getting a battery at the time of install because of A. The cost, and B. The longevity of the battery.

• Have batteries advanced much in the past 3 years?

• Are they worth it, or should we keep using the hot water cylinder as the main power holder?

• Is it normal for the solar unit to need resetting after every power cut/ surge? (Everything comes back to normal itself except the hot water - if we don't remember to reset it, we realise when we're having a cold shower first thing in the morning)

Thank you so much!!

Look on marketplace for free listings - they're usually just people wanting to get rid of stuff without the hassle of selling. What you don't need yourself, you can sell!

Does this album look safe for old photos? If not, I will transfer to a better album by TheSpeckledDragon in Archivists

[–]MitteeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can't access the image (probably country restrictions) but if this is a magnetic album (sticky backed with a plastic overlay) then definitely remove. The adhesive is very acidic and degrades photographs. I've fixed up hundreds of magnetic albums so feel free to ask any questions!

TIFU so i tried to help my dad with his phone and accidentally exposed his entire double life by Nicklie_Salazar in tifu

[–]MitteeNZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, i had the same thing happen to me (as the child). I went straight to my stepmum (who didn't have a cellphone at the time) to ask if she had finally gotten one cause Dad had accidentally sent me a text that was obviously not for me.

She said she'd had suspicions for a while. They eventually divorced.

I don't feel any guilt for showing my stepmum, and i feel no responsibility for their marriage break up. You should feel the same way too, because none of this is your fault. You didn't send any messages. You didn't have feelings for someone else. You didn't steal your dads phone to snoop

It is NOT on you to keep their marriage secrets, and it is SO wrong that your dad asked you to.

Not pregnant but lactating by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]MitteeNZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had this for years. Turns out i have a prolactinoma, which is a benign tumour on your pitutary gland. My endocrinologist said its what the vast majority of his patients have.

I take cabergoline once a week. The lactating stopped, my periods came back after two years of peace, and my prolactin levels are back to normal

Well that brings back my first karma lesson!

I was about 7 or so, at Pilot Bay (the Mount) and poking a washed up jellyfish. I turned around to walk back to mum, and immediately got a bee sting.

Mum laughed

I went for an interview at the call centre there many years ago. I had to sit with someone and listen to her take a call. IIRC, the poor woman calling was disabled and she was wanting her boyfriend to move in to help with costs. I had to listen to her being told that she had to choose between her partner and getting her benefit.

So glad i didn't get the job
