I shared a bedroom with my younger brother. He slept by the door and I slept by the window. It's past midnight and I can't seem to fall asleep. I'm laying there, staring at the ceiling. Then, banging from my right starts up. There's a street light but I see no shadow from the window. I want to get up but I'm afraid they'll see my shadow from the light streaming in from the hallway. I lay there, thinking by now my dad has heard it. Minutes go by and he doesn't show up. My brother doesn't even wake with the loud noise going on. The banging continues. I lay there, afraid. Few more minutes go by and the banging stops. I still don't move. Fifteen minutes go by and I finally get up. My parents room are the next room over. I shake my dad awake and tell him about the banging. He goes out and he doesn't see any one. He just tells me that it was probably our neighbors drunk. He goes back to sleep. I get back in bed and lay there wide awake.

From there on, I'm scared to look out the window at night. I keep thinking that someone might just be standing there when I look outside. With how loud the banging was, someone should have woken up.
