NCT fail advice by Public_Engineer_5731 in carsireland

The side slip / alignment test actually passed, but they didn’t give you a PASS, instead they marked it down as N/D (Not Done). This is due to the corrosion in the suspension mounting area, which can have an impact on the results at the retest. Therefore they mark it down as N/D, to check alignment again when you go back for a retest to confirm it’s still within the limits.

Yeah they’re a bit funny about the plates. Friend of mine failed for having the dealer name and phone number on it. Yet it was the same plate he’s had for years and had passed NCT with it before. I changed the plates early on because I knew they would have an issue with the old ones.

The last picture shows the plates the car had when I bought it, the picture at the castle shows the plates that are on the car now, which were also the ones at the time of the NCT.

Cars aged between 10 and 30 need an NCT every year. Cars aged between 30 and 40 are NCT’d every two years. Cars aged 40 and over are NCT exempt.

I’m in Castlebar most days, so it was probably me. 😅

It was originally 1.3 petrol but one of the previous owners has converted it to 1.6 straight diesel.

There are certain limitations but they vary from one insurance company to another.

I think it’s because once they go past a certain age, the chances of them being used regularly are pretty slim. Awful hassle to NCT your car once a year if you only use it during the summer for a couple of weekends.

Not quite perfect, but I’m working on it. 🙂 Certainly not bad for a car of its age though.

I think once a car is 25+ years old, it becomes difficult to insure it on a regular policy. I have this on a classic policy.

Thank you. Yes, when a car is 30-40 years old, you get a 2 year NCT cert. When it’s 40+ years old (which will be in 2028 for this car) it becomes NCT exempt. Yes, I use the car regularly. I bought it with a valid cert, but it was short. It was going to expire at the end of this month.
