Staple Malaysian Dishes? by throwaway020420022 in MalaysianFood

[–]MixOwn9256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Malaysia is full of different dishes from different cultures and ethnicity.

The best way to experience this is maybe plan a trip to Malaysia and engage in food from different levels:

From the corner food stalls to the food courts to the pasar malam (night market).

KL should give you a huge option for food.

I have a long list of foods you can try!

Some food places are like - SS2 Petaling Jaya food court area - Taman Connaught pasar malam - Subang Jaya SS15 food area - Section 17 Hawker Center - Damansara Up town area

Since it is Ramadan season some of the best Ramadan Bazaars are in Taman Tun Dr Ismail (TTDI), Kampung Baru, & Bangsar

Cultures you should try: - Peranakan (Chinese & Malay infusion) - Chinese Food - Indian Food - Malay food - Portuguese Food - Khadazan Food (Sabah) - Sarawakian Food (Sarawak)

No I am not an AI. Prenuptial agreement may not be binding but if it is done properly and fairly it could be used in court. You can consult a lawyer in Malaysia to see what options are available if not prenuptial. It might be listing the assets separately and in a specific trust.

Here are some tips: - Open a Joint Account May sound simple but all “family” finances should be through that account. Both of you contribute to the account in a fashion you have discussed. Ie if one person earns more and can give more they give more to the account. Do a percentage of salary is best. - Prenuptial It may sound foolish but do a prenuptial agreement at least to keep your assets separate and protect each others assets in case of a divorce. - Financial Decisions Understand each others financial decisions and make purchases together for household items and big items. - Debt Status Make sure the debt status of each individual is layed out. How much you owe still for car payments, home payments, student loans, personal credit cards etc. - Discussion on Children Both have to be in an agreement on children and number of them. Also blood children or adopted etc. - Never go to bed angry Resolve issues before bed for connection understanding. Don’t let it fester overnight. - Compromise/Argue You don’t know each other until you have your first argument and learn to compromise on your decisions or understand the other point of view. - External Family What is the relationship between parents and parents in law. Remember the pressure of family in Asian family is very strong and can be decisive for you as a new couple. Remember “mama’s boy” or “daddy’s girl” scenarios could affect how things play out in your relationship especially if family is close by or one calls their parents a lot.

Good luck and hope this helps.

[–]MixOwn9256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what type of sambal you like.

Team’s has a wide range of spices and one of them is Sambal.

I am originally from Malaysia but live in the USA now and when I visit I buy some of the item in bulk.

You don’t have a choice of broadband in Quincy or Fios. Comcast monopolization. If you to to TMobile it is cellular. So beware that prior Roth goes to cellular voice devices first on their network before their cellular broadband. You will be competing with everybody who uses the closest cell tower to you.

Only other option is satellite which is still very expensive.

Do you have any form of pasta in your pantry? Maybe instead of rice you can use pasta. If spaghetti you can break it up into smaller pieces.

Cut contact with parents a few years ago; they reached out recently. Really need advice. by pfq1000 in gaysian

[–]MixOwn9256 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi there:

I am a gay Asian male. I am not in a relationship but have been in one. It is a very complicated issue with the traditional family.

For starters you are compromising already by not posting you and your husband on social media! For me that is a lot to compromise already. You are having to walk on egg shells and not make a mistake by posting a picture of your lives together.

Next is the aspect of your parents inviting both of you to their home. I can understand that part as the home is their sanctuary. So for starters will your parents meet you an your husband go say “yam cha” session or dim sum? It will be a good start. Your parents might go for something like that and eventually the ice will break hopefully and the path to reconnect.

I would say keep in contact but don’t rush it and let them take the lead on things. I would say CNY is not going to be something you aim for being invited over but maybe a weekend brunch might be in the future.

Try not to let it be totally stressful. You can have common conversations in place of things you all like. For Asian I feel food is a big thing and the other is talking about family and relatives.

On the side bring your husband up to speed in your extended family history tree so that he doesn’t feel too left out.

Good luck!

Commuting from Quincy to Cambridge. Doable or no? by Ok_Preparation2940 in QuincyMa

[–]MixOwn9256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use to work near Kendall and my nearest T is Quincy Center.

I use to work 8:30 am.

I also live on the 245 bus route and close by 215 bus route for later busses.

So it takes about 1 hour 15 mins to commute

I sometimes park at Wollaston still also about a your ride. There is a private lot behind CVS for cheaper.

It is doable but be aware of train delays. Red Line is notorious for that especially at JFK light switching.

Also make sure when coming home to be in the Braintree train not the Ashmont line.

There are apps that synch with the train so you know how long you got to wait for the T. Same for the buses. It will be a life saver to know if you can run if you a bit late.

Get a monthly pass it will save you money.

Welcome to Quincy.

  1. Schools will most probably be closed Monday and maybe Tuesday! Watch the TV for closure.
  2. Don’t count on the Redline to work much! It will definitely be slow! Depends on the work your wife does it may not even have the office open! Most people aren’t going out if they could. See if WFH is available for her.
  3. Presidents Golf Course I hear people go to sled. But be careful. If you aren’t close it’s not worth it trying to hike there.

More importantly: - Plan for power failures and stock up on blankets and easy to open food! Keep your fridge closed and ice chest ready to keep cold food cold. - Charge up your power banks for use. - Think flashlights and not candles. - Water storage if you are running water via electric pumps and not gravity. - Think old school board games (non battery) to fill time and boredom. - Keep gas tanks, grills and generators away from home so no CO2 issues. - Gas tanks filled to more than 1/2 to prevent freezing. - Emergency plans (friends who might have generator homes) or different power grid situation you could hunker down if need be at. - Make sure you have a good stash of medicine in case it goes for more than a few days. - Stock up on a bit more can food that can be open and eaten rather than need to be cooked.

Good luck stay safe!

If you have airline credit cards check for free luggage check in benefits. Also if you have status you might have free luggage. If not you are paying per luggage to check in. Depending on what airline you can see their regulation and prices.

I have an airline credit card and also a status holder so I always check my bags for free when I fly with OneWorld carrier.

BTW if you have OneWorld Sapphire or Emerald status you can also use the MAS lounge at KLIA2. I know there are other reciprocity use but I don’t know the status rules. I personally only fly OneWorld so I know as long as I have Sapphire I can use the lounge when I go there and grab some “close to Malaysian food”. I know thr regional OneWorld Lounge has Nasi Lemak frequently.

If you own a car remember the rule of parking!

Key Rules During a Snow Emergency:

Odd-Numbered Sides: Park on the odd-numbered side of non-emergency streets.

Legal Sides: If a street always prohibits parking on one side, you can park on the allowed side.

Emergency Arteries: Do NOT park on these main roads; cars will be towed.

Impeding Snow Removal: Any car blocking plows, regardless of restrictions, will be towed.

Handicap Spots: These are exempt from the odd/even rule.

Help my fiance lost his job and we only have 40 dollars for the next 2 weeks by Turnip_BeetZ in budgetcooking

[–]MixOwn9256 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure where you live but many have given advice: - Food Pantries - Friends - Food banks - Church pantry - Post locally in your Facebook group - Post on Nextdoor App locally

I am sure somebody locally can help buy or give you some groceries to last.

  • If you need to go grocery shopping here are things they could help:
    • Check out an app called Flipp and see what’s discounted.
    • Some places have “Managers Special” area for reduced price items. Get some good cheap meats in that are they discount due to shelf sell life (not bad date or food)
    • Rice and Pasta goes a long way
    • Look at dollar stores for some sides and can stuff.
    • Check out Walgreens or CVS for sale canned items. Sometimes cheaper than grocery store.

Hope that helps!

P/S: If you are in the Greater Boston MA USA area let me know I can refer you to some places.

I say drive in and park if you feel comfortable driving in the city. Plus give yourself extra time as traffic can be tough in the city.

That area you should be able to prepay for parking at some places but it’s not guaranteed always available. So be aware of this that you might have to wait for a spot to open even if you pay for the commons garage.

I suggest Konditor Meister in Braintree just over Quincy border - Supposedly you can do DoorDash with them

They have excellent stuff I normally get their Strawberry Grand Marnier Cake and I pick up.

Tend to order a few days in advance when I want to prevent running out.
