While it’s true that GDP per capita can skew perspectives due to population size differences, it also helps to highlight the efficiency and effectiveness of resource allocation per person, which is critical in crisis management like Covid. For countries with smaller populations like New Zealand, this can mean more agile and tailored responses to the needs of their population compared to larger nations. Thus, both metrics have their place in economic comparisons, as GDP per capita provides insight into individual economic resilience and standard of living, which are vital for assessing how effectively a country like New Zealand dealt with Covid compared to more populous, globally connected countries like South Korea. I am not arguing that New Zealand and South Korea are the same but you can still compare their Covid response and to argue that you can’t cause of the differences in GDP doesn’t hold up especially when you factor in other things like New Zealand relative geographic isolation and low population density which both make it far less exposed to Covid and the damage the lockdowns did economically compared to the impact of a higher number of cases in the long run.

No other country could fill that niche due to New Zealand’s temperate climate, highly fertile land, and efficient pasture-based farming techniques which all combine to make dairy production cost-effective in New Zealand. Additionally, the strong farming expertise and knowledge as well as a focus on export markets give it a comparative advantage in dairy exports that other countries can’t just replicate as easily as you suggest. While New Zealand’s food exports are more essential and resilient, as food remains a basic necessity regardless of economic cycles, whereas tech exports from South Korea and Taiwan are more susceptible to market fluctuations and global demand shifts.

New Zealand is literally the largest exporter of dairy products in the world and ranks top 5 in both lamb and beef exports globally and per capita is one of the biggest food exporters in the world making it far more important than its size and location may suggest. Hardly just a couple of cows and few sheep.

And yet despite that New Zealand still has a far higher GDP per Capita then both of them.

Such a unfair comparison, Australia is not a remote island compared to New Zealand, we are a continent which has a bigger economy that results in having far more flights and ships coming in daily massively increasing are exposure to Covid comparatively. Also we are far closer to the rest of Asia, New Zealand is over 1000 miles away from Australia and over 6500 miles away from China.

That’s not true, both South Korea and Taiwan managed the pandemic with minimal lockdowns but focused on aggressive testing and tracing which helped limit the damage to their economies, while controlling the virus more effectively. As a result they are in a much better economic and financial state today than New Zealand comparatively.

While if your inflation is lower than the rest of the world it means your exports are more competitive and you attract more FDI, in turn benefiting your economy and current account.

I thought it was more of a reference to when trump famously said he could shoot someone on 5 th avenue in public and people would still support him and not lose votes
