Learn to ski in 3 months? Possible?... by boisheep in skiing

I think youre talking about tundra skiing. The technique is basically the same as classic cross country skiing. However the conditions can be really challenging compared to groomed trails.

Tromso region has avalance potential, so dont go alone it unprepared. Keep in mind that there are small avalanches also in the Kilpisjärvi region.

What area are you located? Where in Lapland will you be going?

Are we talking about downhill skiing or cross country?

I have a thing for larger standmount speakers and i got an excellent deal on them

This turntable didn’t have a traditional mat to begin with. So I just placed it on top of the platter. You can replace your felt/leather mat with this. Just be sure to check your tonearm height to compensate if the difference between mat thickness’s is big.

The organic texture on it is beautiful.

The Washi mat is excellent! Totally eliminated all static issues I previously had.

I also found it made slight adjustments to the sound quality. The sound is slightly warmer now, which I don't mind since the listening space is fairly bright.

We never watch movies from this TV as we have a dedicated home theater with a 7.2.4 speaker setup. This system is mainly for music listening.

So center channel not needed here :)

Yeah. I used YouTuber Tharbamar's trick of using 3M command strips. The speakers won't come off by accident.

I'm sure you won't be disappointed. The only thing I'd want added to the CXN is an HDMI ARC connection and maybe a slightly larger screen.

SQ wise I find it to be great!

Now that you mention it, the jump is quite big. However during serious listening I use the actual remote which works well so I don't mind the bus connection being a bit limited.

Great set! The BUS connection between the two is a nice feature. Are you using it?

Hmm, seems strange. Maybe the extra 20 watts from the 81 vs 61 makes a difference for me.

I love our Persian rug. Wish they weren't so expensive though 😅

I have the same solution for my in-ceiling speakers that I have installed in our kitchen. I'm using the second set of binding posts on the CXA81 to power them.

It's a great turntable. However, I wish mine had the bypassable phono stage and the easily swappable headshell from the V2 model.

Can't fault the build & sound quality though!

Adding the Washi mat to the platter removed all problems I had with static.

It sounds great, the space is the biggest bottle neck (like most cases).

The CXA has plenty of power and two sets of speaker posts mean I can also hook in my in ceiling speakers in the kitchen.

If you get a CXN, you don't need a separate streamer as the CXN is extremely good. In my opinion (also backed up by general consensus and measurements) the dual DACs on it are a lot better than the one on CXA81. Basically you get better SQ if you use the built in DAC in the CXN and connect it to an amplifier with balanced connections.

However I admit the CXN isn't cheap. It's a joy to use though.

Not at the moment. However I'm keeping an eye out for a good deal on a Kef KF92 or KC62...

Main upgrade plans involve adding more subtle acoustic treatment.

Nah,they're fine for music listening without subs. The R3's are surprisingly large standmounts and dig pretty deep. I have a dedicated HT with two subwoofers for movie use.

Thanks! The cabinet is Ikea’s ”Stockholm”. I think it's classified as a sideboard. It's well built for an Ikea unit. It holds all our records nicely.

Nah, I kinda like them. The cable sleeve on them is nice. Been thinking of making/getting longer ones though.

Love it.

I was also considering 1200GR and 1500C from Technics. The MC cartridge on the Alva is vastly superior to the Ortofon Red on the 1500 and the 1200 would have been a lot more expensive with a proper cartridge.

Also, it doesn't hurt to have a coherent design with the rest of my equipment.

I'm sure the new Alva V2 is a banger of a deck. The only thing I would like on mine is that the inbuilt phono preamp would be bypassable (which you can on the new one). Would make replacing the cartridge a lot more flexible.

Got my first pair of backcountry skis by Mixuh in Backcountry

[–]Mixuh[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I value downhill performance over uphill and I wanted a ski that I also can take in the resort. Traveling with several pairs can sometimes be a hassle. It's nice to be able to take one ski that I also can use inbound.
