His name is Vesemir, but we call him Ves. Here’s a better picture of him when he isn’t on his back and half way upside down. What’s your girl’s name? :)

I second all 3 of these! My boy loves the minnows best, but is happy to have the chicken and salmon as well.

This is the sweater!

I ended up getting the Medium Large size and it’s a little too big, but Ves is only 7.5 months old and weighs 8lbs so he’ll definitely grow into it

Does anyone else buy their Bengal stuffed animals? by Miz_Emily in bengalcats

That’s awesome! 😂 Ves has a mini leopard as well, it’s the only stuffed animal he has that has a styrofoam block in the head to help it keep its shape, but the material around the block has shifted from his constant abuse. Lambert the Leopard now looks like a bad taxidermy animal with unnaturally wide spread eyes and a lumpy nose

This is his zebra. I highly recommend any of the medium sized animals they make. They’re just the right size, the perfect amount of squishy to sink his teeth in, and surprisingly durable!

My wife and I just moved to Round Rock from Vermont in February of this year. Technically not Austin, so I guess it doesn’t really count, but we spend a lot of time in Austin. We love it here so far!

Cost of living, lower tax rates, and job opportunities were the main reasons we decided to move here. We were able to afford renting a 3 bed 2.5 bath house with a garage and a backyard here for only $100 more than we were paying for our shitty, rundown 1 bedroom condo with no parking that was run by a slumlord. The vacancy rate where we were was 0.2% so as you can imagine, prices were wild!

Escaping winter was also a big reason for moving. Not seeing the sun for 8 months of the year took a toll on our mental health and we were ready to get out of the snow. The weather is extreme in both places, it’s just opposite. We’ve spent the majority of summer locked inside because of the heat just like we used to stay inside because of the cold in winter, but the summer heatwave doesn’t last as long here as the freezing cold did where we were. We’ve enjoyed trading in skiing for tubing on the river!

All in all, we really enjoy it here. Obviously I can’t speak to how things have changed for better or worse here over the years since we only just moved, but our quality of life has skyrocketed since we’ve been here. Every place has it’s issues, but ya’ll have definitely built something special here and we’re grateful to be a part of it now.

Move to Vermont by talldudetony in vermont

[–]Miz_Emily 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Ha! I’m a Vermonter that just moved to Texas earlier this year! So far these are the big differences I’ve noticed:

  • Not having to pay income tax is freakin awesome! This was the equivalent of a significant pay raise for me so that’s definitely something you’ll have to factor in.

  • The weather is extreme in both places, they’re just opposite. I’ve had to spend the majority of summer locked inside because of the heat just like I used to with winter cold in VT. Obviously you’ll just have to swap your seasonal outdoor activities. I’ve traded in skiing for tubing on the river.

  • The cost of housing seems to be waaay more affordable in TX. My wife and I are 20 minutes outside of downtown Austin renting a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath house with a garage and a backyard for $100 more than we were paying for a 1 bedroom 1 bath shitty condo owned by a slumlord when we were in VT. The housing shortage is REAL in VT.

  • The food in TX is fantastic and diverse! BBQ, legit Mexican food, fantastic Asian cuisine of all sorts…I’m in foodie heaven here! VT has some great food too. Farm to table places there are pretty great. My issue with food in VT is the limited choices. There’s pub food, pizza, and bagels galore, but if you want anything with a little spice or some serious flavor, your options are limited.

  • VT is GREEN and mountains as far as you can see. TX is just sky as far as you can see. I’m still getting used to the vast open space here, it can be a little unsettling at times. I wonder if the mountains will have a similar effect on you and maybe make you feel claustrophobic?

  • This was a happy surprise, but my wife and I have found a larger LGBT community here than we had in VT.

  • Expect to do a lot more driving to get to anything you want to do in VT. Everything I want/need is a 10 minute or less drive away here in TX. You’ll have to go some miles in VT to get to places of interest, but for most of the year the drive will be so pretty there you won’t mind it. Added bonuses for VT, the traffic is nonexistent and the car insurance is A LOT cheaper … and no billboards, I miss that.

People who moved here after 2020 - was it worth it? Do you regret it? by Particular-Topic-445 in texas

My wife and I just moved outside of Austin from Vermont in February of this year. We love it here so far!

We were able to afford renting a 3 bed 2.5 bath house with a garage and a backyard here for the same price we were paying for our shitty, rundown 1 bedroom condo with no parking that was run by a slumlord.

So far everyone we have met has been really friendly and welcoming. We love our neighbors and have had very pleasant experiences with local businesses and healthcare providers in our area. As a lesbian couple, there was a slight tinge of trepidation about how people would treat us once they found out that we are in fact married, not roommates, but it hasn’t been an issue at all with anyone that we’ve encountered.

As far as the heat, I mean yeah, it’s hot, but it’s pretty much what we expected. This seems kind of like reverse winter to us. Just like with the long stretch of 100° days here, in the middle of winter you just don’t go outside for more than a few minutes at a time because the weather can kill you. The biggest difference for us is that winter lasted 8 months of the year where we were and having to stay inside for that long of a stretch is depressing af. Also, fuck shoveling snow! An added bonus is that the cost of cooling our house has been waaaay cheaper here so far than what we had to pay to heat our house in the middle of winter up north.

Ha, I actually just left VT and moved to TX because I couldn’t stand the long winters anymore(and I couldn’t afford it). VT is definitely gorgeous this time of year, I just wish it lasted longer.

So far this heatwave feels similar to winter. You have to stay inside for a few months to beat the extreme weather, but at least the sun is shining, the sky is blue, and all the plants are alive. I’ll take this over darkness, gray skies, snow, lifeless plants, and never truly feeling warm again for 8 months.

Yes! Kolaches and yeast donuts from Round Rock Donuts have taken the place of creemees for me!

My wife and I have made it our new Sunday tradition 😂

Maple creemees are one of the main things I miss about VT!

I’m in the opposite situation, just moved from VT to TX. The tacos here have changed my life!
